Okay, good day to your senseless rambling in that case.
Both of which would have the same miserable 370mm KE on the hull and possibly M1A1-level armor on the turret at most (they are pre-DU, as far as I know). And 1st gen thermals, while we are at it. And they are prototypes as oppossed to both SEPv3 iterations.
Why deny two uparmored serial production service variants from the premise of the possibility of getting two old prototypes still with miserable armor?
Looking at the armor viewer, that may be.
But real gameplay isn’t the armor viewer and its perfect LOS 0º shots.
Across my several hundred matches with every Challenger 2 variant, I can guarantee this thing’s armor withstands A LOT of fire frontally in actual gameplay; because as soon as you are minimally angled, be it horizontally or vertically, the effectiveness drastically increases. And those are the conditions you find in gameplay, not the perfect hangar 0º LOS angle.
That’s the same reason why the Abrams UFP is not remotely as effective as it’s made out to be. Everyone claims it’s “an auto-ricochet” based off the perfect 0º LOS hangar armor viewer, but, in actual gameplay, are rarely ever on a perfect 0º slope, but rather, on uneven ground, and it only takes a SINGLE degree of a difference… for this to happen to that “auto ricochet UFP”:
Sometimes, even in perfect LOS angles; if you are close (as in most maps), the angle of attack negates the constructional slope angle;
I really don’t like stonewallers.
Huh?
Just ignore him (he’s salty that people aren’t simply taking his “trust me bro” at face value like a child).
It’s the same song and dance as always, they’re wastes of time arguing to keep things the same.
Anyway, this is heating up, so I’m just gonna go tidy myself up and get ready to hang out later xD
I normally need 2 hours to get ready but I lost track of time in here and now I have only 50 minutes, AAAAA
Deuces.
Reality is Soviet equipment from 1983 upgraded with ERA is going to be worse than a brand new turret design [T-90M], and it is.
“But, but… T-80BVM is marginally faster.”
With less than half the armor of T-90M.
Spanish was a holdout until they used the T-90M first hand.
And of my limited use in my T-90M, its performance is already superior to that of my T-80BVM 3BM42 performance; which is sadly only testimony cause my BVM stats are in a rather high modifications state.
@Dinfire
M1A1 HC is 11.3 with a worse round to that of M1A2, please remove your blatant insults toward the man.
Abrams is a good tank; this is common knowledge among many people.
And @SPANISH_AVENGER win rate does NOT mean anything about tanks being good or not.
Check Cavenub’s KDR in Ariete, which is less than that of his other tanks.
Cavenub acknowledges consistently Ariete’s shortcomings; you even link one of those videos.
Oh, and Necrons even mentions their KDRs, which until we get base capture and kill assist stats on statcards, will matter the most.
Same armor as T-72B. ;)
You Two are being unfair to Necrons, someone whom I’ve had other disagreements with.
The M1 CATTB for sure does not have miserable armour.
The CATTB would feature:
- Turret spall liners. (Long requested addition by M1 fans)
- Autoloader. (5-6s reload)
- 800-900mm turret cheeks
- Turret roof immune to 125mm HE.
- Somewhere around 900mm LoS penetration @ 3km
- Weighs less than the M1A2 SEP v2
- Turret side armour in the range of 500-600mm
- Hydropneumatic suspension
For me one of the most efficient ways of killing an M1 is penetrating the turret side through the blast doors and into the bustle. That wouldn’t be possible any more with a CATTB. In return it could also roflpen a 2A7V or T-80BVM at any distance.
Moot point because the same is true for literally any MBT.
T-72B3 pointing downwards slightly? Aaand it’s gone. M829A2 went through the UFP at 2000m.
My insults were based on someone claiming that the Abrams is a good tank when they continually min-max and avoid playing on all servers, instead choosing to stay at an 11.0 line-up where they will be dragged down more likely against 10.0 premium players, rather than play a consistently 11.7 line-up.
As for Cavenub, I don’t care how good one-off matches are.
–
Further, I don’t care how good your damn K/D is. I don’t meet them that regularly, so a wannabe leet telling me what I already know without getting people to actually play better isn’t really a problem for me.
What does concern me is consistent stonewalling (et al), consistent downsizing of the issues already present in the Abrams, and consistent dogging of folks requesting improvements.

You can’t fix the stupid in teams? You can fix the tanks. It’s that simple.
So until I see M829A3 and turret ring fixes, I’ll continually go toe to toe with anyone of these stonewallers and tell them what I think of them.
M829A3 isn’t needed when it fires the best MBT round as-is.
And while turret ring fix will help it against Strf 9040s, it’ll still be a weakspot to MBTs.
829A2 isn’t the best MBT round.
You can argue with Furina and Necrons about it if you like, but we’re on the A4.
What’s needed is fixes. And turret ring fix will also save us from SPAAs and BMPs. Worth it. Between that and larger maps, we might see some leveling out.
Until then, I see continually players who are playing with 1-off Clickbaits and they make life hell for War Thunder players who actually want to get good and have fun.
There’s dozens on the verge of quitting now because the U.S. line is so unfun to play. So let Gaijin keep not addressing it, and they’ll lose their money boat fast.
Out of the same-length of barrel, M829A2 pens 8mm more than DM53 at 100 meters, and 20mm at 2000 meters.
And when we are fighting in close quarters against tanks equipped with ERA that absorbs both? What’s the point of a couple mm in that situation? I want the A3 for its additional spalling abilities and its harder punch as an added “get rekt”.
Idler wheel has no ERA, nor does the BVM’s turret unless it’s looking away from you.
Tracks, idler wheels and the side hull ricochet more often than I care for. Not everyone is working off of zero ping. Some of us operate off of WiFi, my guy. And every time we pause and check our aiming, the other guy or girl for some reason can twitch-shoot and overpen our turret ring and breech. So yeah, give me the ‘get rekt’ round.
I’ve never ricochet’d off an idler wheel, even when using 105mm HEATFS against T-80Us.
So I’m concerned on how you managed to “accomplish” such a feat of bouncing an idler wheel shot.
Add the Leclerc with its 280mm UFP protection :D
Does it matter what you think? No.
They’ve given them the Object 292, it’s not impossible to get the ‘get rekt’ round for the Abrams.
