In game the AIM-9L is superior to R-60Ms, which is accurate. Soviet and American RD cycles were not aligned at this time, leading to the capability jump we see in game. It’s just unfortunately unavoidable. AIM-9Ls are superior to R-60Ms but the next step up the line, the R-73, is superior to the AIM-9L. So there won’t be any perfect balance.
They’re fine for killing usa Zombers sure, but 1 flare and they’re off the mark.
I was only really getting at the hit accuracy about the R-73, unless you are dogfighting, the R-73 can be just as easily flared as a R-60. The R-73 is definitely better with its gate width (which doesn’t close currently as much as it should), but I find aim-9Ls far more reliable.
The game is not 1:1 with real life, if it was, I don’t think irl, that Aim-120s can track / fly through a mountain.
Like every single IR missile in the game except IRCCM ones in certain conditions and AIM-9L from rear aspect. Some hot planes may require whole 2 (!) flares in quick succession. If you need more than 2 flares, you ain’t flaring that.
A bigger problem is their wide FOV. It makes preflaring very effective and annoying. It’s not something that makes them unusable though.

It turns out giving red side fighters that are actually good has already started to change the balance of the game.

oh i do play air sim and i regularly watch russian players try to keep trying to use multipath like its going to work. then they don’t seem to realize that the aim 120B doesn’t care if they multipath, the only time russians win simulator is if its ground rb, because they have the pantsir. Without the pantsir they get curb stomped.

yes. when you remove all the bia’s and its just planes vs planes the russians / chinese players cave and leave the match every single game. That why this guy made this post because he knows there is no chance.

difference? The pilot is the difference. then the plane, then the missiles. i’ve only been shot down a total of about 11 times by enemy players, the rest are me crashing or A.I killing me in my F-15e one match i hit 17 russian planes in my first sim match and 7 of those kills were somehow assists.
Sure. What happens when one side has to deal with a heavily worse plane in comparison to the other side having a very strong plane?

When the F4C came out and it was forced to fight migs, i specifically remember russians saying " learn to side climb or skill issue " Gaijin already nerfed the F-15E because of whiners and it doesn’t even do what it should do, and they never fixed the missiles, infact they haven’t fixed any of the U.S Missile and have completely ignored bug reports.
