The current rain droplets on aircraft canopies is extremely outdated and very hard to be able to see as it is mostly just a png that moves. Most of the time you do not even notice the existence of the rain droplets on the aircraft’s canopy unless you are actively searching to see it, the droplets are typically a lot smaller than they should be. It does not obscure the vision of the pilot in anyway shape or form like it should do and they do not properly really show any form of light, the current rain droplets are more of a shadow/ absence of light than anything. Rain droplets bring another level of immersion while flying through clouds and in rainy/ stormy weather conditions. This graphical feature has been long overdue for a visual/ graphical upgrade to fit with the rest of the games modernized art-style.

You can see here in DCS how they have their rain and how it interacts with their canopies. It properly disrupts the pilots vision of the outside and will clear up as the aircraft picks up speed as the wind will wash it all away. Aircraft with window wipers would obviously be able to wipe the water off to be able to properly.
