Update/Expansion to the options for disabling fictional elements in matches

  • I would like the developers to expand and/or update the “Customization of Vehicles” options for disabling fictional/ahistorical elements from being visible during gameplay
  • I am happy with the current implementation of the “Customization of Vehicles” options

Hey everyone,

I am interested in hearing what you think about the current implementation of “Customization of Vehicles” section of the options, particularly the enabling or disabling of fictional content during gameplay. Personally, I would like to see an expansion to the options available that allow the player to customize what content they can see while in a match.

Currently, the options state that you can disable fictional “content” (defined as decals, camouflages, and attachables) in each of the three modes- Arcade, Realistic, and Simulator. Many of you will recognize that based on this description, the feature is currently not working as described. Many fictional elements such as cuckoo clocks, birthday cakes, and fireworks can still be seen even after disabling fictional elements. I believe this is due to the deprecation of the tagging system originally used for camos, decals, and decorations. Most, if not all, decals and camos have a tag which states whether they are Historical, Semihistorical, or Fictional. Some of the older decorations also have these tags, however the majority do not. I have not personally tested whether the tag a decoration is assigned affects is visibility in game, but it is my running theory on why many fictional elements still appear in game despite having them disabled.

This post merely aims to raise the issue for discussion and gauge the community’s interest in an update to these options. Below this I include my personal thoughts/suggestions on the issue.

Personally, I would like to see an update and/or expansion of the options to:

  1. Actually disable fictional elements/content from being visible during gameplay.
  2. Allow players to disable semihistorical content in addition to fictional content.
  3. Classify/Reclassify decorations into the historical, semihistorical, and fictional categories.

In an ideal system, all decorations would be classed as either semihistorical or fictional, as historical “decorations” are often already included in the tank’s in-game model, but I’d like to hear what you guys think about that.

So, let me know what you think and vote in the poll (also let me know if I should add any more options or change the poll at all).

You would need to extensively define whats “historical” because dakis are historical.

This isn’t about any specific decoration that prompted me to post it. Also, this body pillow isn’t in the game. The body-pillows in the game do not exist in real life (afaik, I may be wrong). I would agree that if a Zero-Two body pillow was in the game, then it would be historical, but that doesn’t make the application of a body pillow of a character made for war thunder placed on a world war two tank historical. Realistically, any of the body pillows currently in game are fictional because (again AFAIK) they do not exist in real life.

edit: I forgot to address the main point. I think you are right in that someone needs to define what is historical, semihistorical, and fictional. I think the developers either already have this in mind or its something they can make a decision on, I’m just asking for them to look into it, not asking them to implement my specific view of it

also add option to exclude paper vehicles from matchmaking

One thing at time lol

I would support a copy of the system used for decals, only if there is a way to hide bushes, such as classifying them as semi historical (allowing them to be hidden by selecting only historical decorations).

If that part isn’t added, I don’t have any strong opinions on this.

All decorations are “historically accurate”, none are objectively fictional.

Also careful @Beeschurger you’ve made over 50 of my takes in the last week.

Even if something just existing in real life made it historical in the context of the game (which it does not), this is still not true. For example, the “Achtung Panzer” red and white circular road sign did not exist in real life until fans of the game recreated it after it was added to the game. The sign is fictional, as it is an original creation in the game, not based on a real sign.

I honestly think this is the main reason people have been voting no. I’m not asking for them to do anything about bushes with this suggestion, even though I personally dislike them, but people see the term “decoration” next to the words change or update and they immediately fear something happening to bushes (which is odd because they are supposedly non advantageous to the player?)
