Ever heard of Ethiopia vs Erythrea war when Su-27s fought vs Mig-29s? planes have radar with emission near identical to a point where even modern RWRs can’t tell them apart

Ok, maybe I need to take a step back from y claim, and focus on the real issue with Sim:

Such a change wouldn’t be necessary (or less necessary) if the aircraft setup would matching the same aircraft against each rather the exception rather than the norm.

Yes, it can happen, the current famous conflict being one example, but it is certainly not the rule.

in current conflicts that’s a norm. there are only few countries making modern jets and chance that same planes will fight is actually quite high.
And even if they didn’t like in vietnam there was standing order to VID target before shooting because electronic IFF is not 100% fault proof - unlike in WT

RWR IFF may be welcome given the matchmaking that we have but the RWR Frequency Detection change is just a huge step backwards.

Possible, but not with same bands.

There is no “rule” to the “issue” of same aircraft on both sides of a conflict. This is why aircraft have camouflages and roundels since the WW1. To clarify the operator. This was superseded by radar IFF for confirming identities beyond visual range.

This is

  1. not an issue, because it is realistic. You already have nameplates as a crutch in the game, more than enough.

  2. irrelevant to the issue of RWR systems being simplified and arcade-fied in the ONE MODE where realism should reign supreme.

That’s how it should be. The waves change their frequency when reflected and even along the way

RWR just can’t identify them.

IRL there was an issue with the same planes fighting on both sides and you can even see a skin for a plane in WT which had triangles to make its identification easier

not to mention that IFF in game works for every plane. you can have WW1 biplane and it will have IFF response when interrogated.

That’s already unrealistically good even for modern standards

the entire issue is that they’re changing the RWRs in SB to be able to pick up all frequencies, and some of them even filtering out allied aircraft (??? wtf)

The Harrier GR.7 avionics manual does show the RWR identifying friendly and hostile emitters. The manual doesn’t explain how those labels are determined, but the simplest answer would probably be that the threat library is programmed with the expected friendly and hostile emitters before the mission. As others have said though that would not necessarily work when both sides use the same radars - if that is indeed how it actually works.

it clearly states that now in SB you can have two identical planes on each side and my RWR will magically know that Mig-29 on my team is friendly and EXACTLY IDENTICAL Mig-29 on enemy team is not.

How?!

you can program to filter out types that you know can only be on your side but it can’t tell two identical radars apart based on what roundel is painted on a plane.

I misunderstood the message.

that would work fine in the situation of NATO vs WP, which is why that was a functionality, but that only works if there are no enemy planes with the same radar as the ones set to be filtered by the threat library. Otherwise you will filter out enemy emissions as well.
