Update 2.27.1.46

The ranges on the sounds were completely messed up shooting an enemy tank closeby would play the sound as if you were getting hit, friendly AA on the airfield sounded like 100 shells whizzing by your head at all times even though they were more than 100m away Also apds sounded like some sort of fantasy energy beam.

The sound itself was very good. I think it would be a great change if the scope of the sound effects, etc. were reviewed and re-implemented.

@Stona_WT
Feedback as requested, sorry i didn’t give it before, the patch was out for just a day or two:

I didn’t dislike the new sounds when ricocheting or when flying by ( except perhalps the fact small calibre guns sounded way too loud in the sound mix compared to something like 30mm’s ), but the impact sounds on tanks felt like the tank is empty, like shooting a oil drum barrel.
I’ve, for safety reasons, never been in a tank and shot at, but i do feel like the contents of the tank ( crew, equipment, electronics, spall liners, etc… ) should muffle/soften a bit the after-hit effect, upon penetration.
I have similar problems with the gun sounds when firing, specially on leopards, it feels like it’s echoing in a very large room.
Picture when you walk on a empty flat for the first time VS walking on the flat when it’s fully furnished - there’s no “echoing”, or reverb, because the elements in the room muffle/soften/divert the sound.
Sound design and sound mixing are a nightmare to polish from my little game dev experience, so i don’t envy such complex changes. what sounds good in 10 tanks, might not sound good in another 20 far along the line.

I have to disagree with comments I’m seeing here, the new sounds were pretty bad, they had some upside but mostly downsides and for me at least it sounded like a very cheap recording.
If I were to compare I’d pick the reverted sounds over the new sounds 10/10 times.

Thanks for listening to the community though!

I agree with others on your comments, I see you guys are still working on the professionalism. I also agree, that each new update there should be a menu pop up poll, after a few matches. A pop up poll could simply explain context and give options '‘I like this update’ or ‘I don’t like this update’ or even ‘with more work, there’s potential’ with a further option to provide comments/explanation. This is how you get the true feeling of most if not the whole community, it also verifies if they’ve actually played the update. You also wouldn’t have to rely on your mind reading department so much.

For the update, I like the direction but I feel further work should be done, add more details. for example the sound of my round pinging another player shouldn’t have the same volume when I hit him 5 meters away compared to 30 meters. it should lessen with distance. on the other side I don’t think there’s much to critique about incoming rounds, that pretty good. We appreciate your effort in listening to community, I feel this change would help greatly in community connection.

Lots of users on Reddit were whining about how “they sounded like metallic objects clashing”.

Yes. They were complaining about metallic objects clashing sounding like metallic objects clashing.

I did, observe!

As soon as some users began complaining about the sounds, I made a counter-post appreciating them.

You can also see this post I made supporting the sound changes is receiving overwhelming support from the community as well.

There is, at very least, just about as many people who liked the changes; it’s just that those who didn’t like them became louder earlier.

I only got to play a few games with the new sounds, but I really liked them. It made the impacts feel a lot heavier and I started driving out in the open a lot more just to get hit and hear them.

I hope they return soon.

I thought the new sounds were great. Shame the update has been reverted so quickly on what appears to be some minority feedback.

Yes, because there’s a very large difference in sound, pitch and resonance between a flat plate being shot at the range that will ring and vibrate alongside bouncing around and a 50 ton machine with large welded plates sitting on suspension absorbing energy with zero give or vibration and taking range videos of plates being shot and flying off and bouncing around to compare to a tank and say its accurate is disingenuous.
We are driving tanks, not gongs

Gaijin this is a prime example of your lack of communication with the community causing more problems than either side needs.
Why can’t you say “Hey, we’re thinking of improving sounds for you, would you like that? Do you have any sources you want us to focus on?” Get the community to tell you what they want you to work on instead of guessing…
Really isn’t as hard as you make it for yourselves.

Bruh it was just for like a day or two and u reverted it. Should have left them for a month and make a poll after what players think. I barely got to hear them and they are gone. Cant even give any feedback.

Pro tip for you.

Did you checked if the number of complaints was a significant sample compared to the average of players connected per day?
If you wasted time adding a new feature and you really want to be sure people likes it, you should probable have time to add a little poll in the main screen of the game where everybody could see it and answer it in a second… Ex. Did you like the new sounds? Yes, No.
If you also invested money adding a new feature, and you think that some players wouldn’t like it. Put it as optional then!
War thunder can also measure if the users are selecting the new sounds or not…

C’mon guys! There are so many useful ways to listen to players and you chose the laziest one.
It is like you were waiting for someone to say “I don’t like it” to just remove it right away.

Lol wow this company never ceases to amaze me. You add something that actually works and it sounded good, and then you delete it lol. Unreal. As you can see here by the comments and the amount of likes on those comments, and on Reddit, I’d say the majority of players LIKED the new sounds. And as they are saying all you had to do was put up a poll. Lol just wow. Your though processes are explaining a lot now. It has nothing to do with reading minds. Heck even players know we can make a post on this forum and attach a poll to it. You very well know this, you run the forum lol. Lol I’m actually blown away by this. You add something good, then only wait 1 or 2 days and just decide to remove it, instead of using proper methods of feedback or giving it a little more time. But yet there’s still bugs in the game (or intentional?) that have been around for weeks now since La Royale update that are basically ruining parts of the game - all missiles flight patterns and erratic behavior, thermals, SPAA radar dish not lowering, etc etc etc. I just don’t get you guys. And from looking at the comments here, it mainly seems to be what appears to be Russian type names of players who agree with you on this. Big surprise huh? Your thought processes here as a company and your fans on here I’m wondering what the heck is going on here. Everything seems backwards. This game you’ve created has so much potential and is great at times, but very often you guys choose to mess it up somehow, like quite often. I understand there are bugs but come on some of this stuff that happens and some that you don’t fix but yet others you revert just don’t make sense.

I cant understand why the new Sounds had to be reverted.
To my mind they were quite good. Definetely one of the better additions to the Game in the last time.

Good decision to revert the - once again - borked and unrealistic sounds.

I’m looking forward to an actual working “directional” Sound, wich will work how it should.

2.27.1.42 this sounds is best they sound very realistic and draw you more into the story. Why did you bring back the old sounds?

I really liked the sounds. I was very sad to see that it was reversed so quickly. I hope they bring it back reworked.

I would say that the sounds could use some smoothing out, especially with the machine guns both in air and ground. However, the concept was really cool and while it terrified me when i first heard ricochets, i felt like very immersed and had a lot of fun.

These sounds was damn good, you should do any ingame poll before changes.
