Hello everyone! This tree wouldn’t have been made without the great help of @GTP_Paulie-psn and @StormRyder13, so send thanks their way if you must.

Why should Canada, Australia and New Zealand be included together?

Canada, Australia and New Zealand share a large portion of traditions and structures formed from their shared Imperial background, and as such they have a shared culture, language, and seagoing traditions. Not only have they shared the same Monarch for decades, they have fought alongside each other as allies in many conflicts, from the Second Boer War to the modern day.

Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have not only worked together in Imperial times, they continue to work extremely closely to this day, for example, New Zealand’s current frigates, the ANZAC-class, which were designed and procured by both Australia and New Zealand, had their FSU (Frigate Support Upgrade) mid-life refit inside of a Canadian yard, with a Canadian designed combat management system.

History of the RCN, RAN and RNZN

Australia first began its navy in the 1880s, as although officially a component within the Royal navy, the many independent Australian States had both tactical and procurement control, meaning they could buy whatever vessels they wanted, and could use them however they pleased (in times of peace).

By 1901, with the combination of the multiple colonial navies into a single structure, named the Commonwealth Naval Forces (CNF), joining the various stately navies under one banner and operational goal, and just like the navies it replaced, the CNF could be form a fleet unit within the Royal Navy, and within Admiralty control during times of War, but Australian control in times of peace. In 1911 they were granted ‘Royal’ status by King George V, becoming the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), and gained true independence in both times of peace and war.

New Zealand similarly had ideas for local defence, and by 1913 they had reached and agreement with the Admiralty, under the Naval defence act 1913. Such that a ‘New Zealand division’ within the Royal Navy itself was created, with vessels to be manned by and paid for by New Zealand. This remained so until the 1st of October 1941, when the Division was renamed to the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) in recognition that the force was mostly self-sufficient and independent by that time. However tactical operations and procurement was actually controlled by the New Zealand Naval Board by ~ 1935, with the 1941 Royal status really just being a change of name.

Canada also began its own naval ambitions in the 1880s, with the Canadian Government enacting the Department of Marine and Fisheries, as to protect local fisheries. Eventually this would encompass all Naval activity, not just fisheries. By 1909 the Naval Service Act was established, creating the Naval Services of Canada, which just like the Australian CNF, would be independent operationally in times of Peace, but integrating within the Royal Navy in times of War. They too would gain independence in 1911, gaining the Royal title on approval from King George V on the 30th of January 1911, becoming the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and gaining true independence in both times of peace and war.

Why not a Commonwealth nation tree?

As it stands, the entirety of the Commonwealth of Nations comprises 56 nations, many of whom may fit better into different trees, or are already present in other nation’s trees. All 56 Commonwealth nations all have different procurement habits from each other, so any tree including all of them will have a large amount of C&P, with it be very hard to treat all 56 nations equally, as there is limited space.

Australia, Canada and New Zealand on the other hand share the same base procurement ideas using western style vehicles, and each nation compliments the tree as a whole, giving us a balanced tree which limits C&P and prevents certain BRs being overfilled with massive gaps to the next vehicle.

The Tree.

The tree is separated into four main lines, Motor Torpedo Boats (MTBs), Motor Gun Boats (MGBs), Corvettes & Minesweepers, and Misc-classes. The tree has a BR span from 1.0-4.3 and include ranks 1-5. The BRs for each vessel have been arranged to the best of my ability, but they are mostly used to direct the flow of the tree. There are 52 Canadian, Australian and New Zealand vessels across the tree and premium lines.

This tree does include some classes which are already present in game, notably the Attack and Fremantle classes of patrol boat, and Restigouche-class DEs among others. These were implemented into the tree because they were an important part of the Canadian and Australian naval forces, and as such should be represented in an CANZAC coastal tree, where ever that may be. It should also be noted that some more modern vessels were left out, as this tree is purposefully being kept at about the same technological level as in game.

Not all vessels in this tree did carry their nations prefix, however they have been added for clarity with the vessel’s operator. For example the ‘HMAS Clive Steele’ as it is in the tree, wasn’t a commissioned RAN vessel, and as such did not carry the ‘HMAS’, instead it carried ‘Australian Landing Ship’, as it was an army vessel.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading the suggestion, this Isn’t supposed to be the ‘definitive’ version of the CANZAC coastal forces, so please feel free to leave suggestions or corrections to the tree or BRs.

Lots of vehicles in this list are very hard to find sources for specific fits and years, so if you have a source that you would like added please DM me, I would love to know more about their refit programs.
