They could mass produce Yatagan-style turrets since they already have the experience on it, then tailor the electronics and ERA for that specific turret on to an existing BM Oplot hull. I would have to look into the differences between the two turrets i.e. shape and such but they should be pretty close with slight differences like minor shaping of the turret for the mounting of Duplet ERA, the rear mounted autoloader, etc. I could be wrong, its been a while since I last worked on the Yatagan suggestion and looked into the earlier T-84 variants. Regardless of it being a Yatagan, or a BM Oplot modified with 120mm, they’d likely procure there rounds from Germany I’d imagine.
Just a small note: T-84-120 Yatagan wasn’t the only Ukrainian mbt with 120mm, there was also T-72-120. It had same autoloading mechanism (with ammunition in bustle rack). Funnily in 2018 the turret from T-72-120 was spotted on the chassis of BMT-72 heavy infantry fighting vehicle in one of promotional videos of Kharkiv tank factory, which actually was ment to demonstrate capabilities of BREM-84 repair and recovery vehicle by pulling “BMT-72-120 (unofficial name)”.
For sure, I just suggested the Yatagan since it’s part of the T-84 family.
I wonder what ever happened to that modified BMT-72.
And T-55 with 120mm ;)
BTR-80UM
Information
-
A Ukrainian-Army BTR-80 with a BMP-3 Turret mounted during a Ukrainian Army Modernisation Project in ~1998/99
-
A batch was ordered for the National Guard, but seemingly never delivered.
-
Up to ~135 Units were delivered to export customers though, including Georgia, from the 7th Kyiv Armour Repair Plant as listed by Army Guide for the duration of 2000 to 2005.
Few photos exist, but some important information can be ascertained from them.
A truly unique vehicle - it may be of Soviet base components, but in practicality, it is more than the sum of its parts. Again, like 90% of Ukrainian vehicles.
Would fit anywhere in the tree, I don’t see any restrictions anymore. I’d love to see it as a premium!
Given it’s capabilities, and the current BRs of similar vehicles, a BR of 8.3 or 8.7 may be suitable.
Armament
-
BMP-3 Turret, as developed by the Kurganmashzavod.
BMP-3 Complex used for illustrative purposes only -
100mm 2A70 - likely lacks the newer 9M117M1 “Kan” Tandem ATGM, as it only entered Russian Army service in 1993 - it likely would, however, have the familiar projectiles already present in-game, of the 3OF32 & 3OF70 HE Rounds and basic HEAT 9M117 ATGM.
-
30mm 2A72, but likely lacks any newer projectiles - may receive APT as a “top round”, therefore 65mm of penetration maximum
-
7.62 PKT Co-Axial Machine Gun
Fire Control System - (from what I can tell!)
- To be noted - I do not believe this vehicle was modernised with the Sozh complex offered by the Belorussian “Peleng” JSC.
The Sozh Complex was offered from 1998, and while it may have been added as export orders continued up until 2004/5, this complex is not seen on the vehicle from the available photos.
-
1K13-2 Sight - For in-game purposes, it provides full stabilisation, along with the weapons system being fully stabilised. It has integrated day/night vision, and a magnification of 8x in the day channel, and 5.5x in the night channel.
An IR-illuminator is available to the vehicle, but it is not needed to acquire tank-sized targets for a distance of up to 800m in a “typical moonless, starlit night” when the ambient light is 0.005 Lux. The Illuminator expands this capability to 1,100m.
No thermal sights would be available for the BTR-80-UM - even the Republic of Korea had to retrofit their own BMP-3 vehicles with Vesna-K Targeting Complex in ~2005/6 to get such capabilities. -
1V539 ballistic computer
-
1D16-3 laser rangefinder - For in-game purposes, it would act a simple laser rangefinder, and I believe it is the system used to guide the ATGMs.
It is the large block found sitting above the weapons system.
Other features
- New 300HP Diesel from the Tokmak Yuzhdizelmash - this allowed for a reported ratio of ~20.5hp/ton
A Russian language article provides limited information:
I understand tankograd may not be a perfect source, but it was used.
The turret was probably removed and put back on whatever it was before or into storage my guess is it was used for the weight factor same with the chassis or who knows maybe it was a sneaky way to reveal something they were working on and then sent it back into the shop afterwards, as the turret was at least functioning enough to turn around and if they were just putting the turret on for a counter weight there really wouldn’t be the need to hook up the rotation systems for the electronic and hydraulic systems as that just complicates the process
Please do a suggestion about it
I’m not sure how they work and what sources I need to provide - I learned of this vehicles existence today and felt the need to post about it here.
The only information I found (through a limited search) was the old export contracts, and those 3 photos - a colourised TV Broadcast, a Black & White Photo, and a closeup of the turret from above showing the laser rangefinder (first photo in the FCS section).
Any more information (except the engine) was my own assumptions and/or deductions based on the photos - of the ammunition available, systems, sights, so on.
Practically, what tree it should go to in-game if not here, what BR it would really have, how to provide sources etc - I don’t know.
I am almost certain that if such information is not laid for Gaijin they will simply dismiss the suggestion, and I cant give them it.
And by god it is very tough for me atleast to find certain things and the technical specifications when I am 100% not familiar with such a level of detail
Politics aside? hell yeah!
If you need help with doing a suggestion I can help you, I have a format I use
I will love it very much! Among them are two of my favorite tanks: the T-84U and the Leopard 2 a6. I always look forward to the day when I see the Ukrainian army plunge into War Thunder. Hope he can come true as planned.
I appreciate the offer, and a suggestion would be nice, but if I suggest it for Ukraine, it will be automatically denied.
And I don’t want to suggest it for the USSR Tree and set a precedent that Ukraine is just a sub-tree (even if we know that wouldn’t work due to bloating, vehicle imbalance, etc).
Maybe I will revisit, but if you or anyone else wants to make a suggestion, absolutely go ahead!
I don’t think it would be denied, there are several Ukraine vehicle suggestions on the forum (and plenty of my suggestions in which scraped by somehow even with lack of sources lol) however I understand. If you change your mind let me know 🤙
This would be a fun copy paste TT. Not being sarcastic. I would really like to see this in game for 2024. Would be really fun imo.
It just needs to be in the game. And now argue with me about the unique game play…😄
Please ,make a sugestion about that!
I don’t even know what it’s called… BMPZU-1-23-2? 🤔
Yes.For example.
BMP-1 (ZU-23-2) would be fine.
The problem with that is that a few countries have BMP-1’s with the ZU-23-2 autocannon and they all have their slight differences
