TL;DR: A standard Type 59 with dual Type 54 HMGs on the cupola mount.
Note: This is the only picture I could find of this tank. If you have any other significant information, please let me know.
History:
After the signing of the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship in 1950, the Soviet Union pledged to assist China in building a tank manufacturing facility for the purpose of producing the Soviet T-54A in China. To get them started, the Soviet Union would supply them with the necessary parts, however, as time went on, these parts would be replaced by Chinese produced equivalents. These Chinese produced T-54As would enter Chinese service in 1959 under the designation of Type 59. After the Sino-Soviet Split, the Soviet Union withdrew all technical support for the Chinese arms industry, causing tank development to stagnate. This was until the 1969 Sino-Soviet Border Conflict, during which the PLA managed to capture a Soviet T-62. The vehicle was studied extensively and the knowledge and technologies gained were used to jumpstart China’s domestic tank production, beginning with the 122 medium tank, the initial prototype of which would be fitted with dual Type 54 HMGs mounted on one of the cupolas. Around the same time, more simple measures to improve China’s tank arsenal were underway. Two standard Type 59s in the Jinan Military Region would be fitted with dual Type 54 HMGs in a mount which looked exactly like the one found on the first 122 prototype. It is ultimately unknown if the dual HMGs on the 122 were carried over to the Type 59s or vice versa, however, the resemblance between the two mounts makes it relatively safe to assume so. Neither the 122 or Type 59 would keep these mounts going forward as they were far too heavy.
Place In War Thunder:
The addition of the so called “Object 122MT ™”, in spite of is countless inaccuracies, is a welcome one for many players, however, many were disappointed to not see the dual HMG mount, even though this would be historically inaccurate. This rare Type 59 would offer those who’d like to see such a mount a much more historically accurate vehicle to play with. The Type 54 HMG is already a potent anti-air weapon, capable of turning anything its mounted on into a SPAAG, however, having two of them at your disposal would make you even more dangerous. Other than the increase in AA ability, playstyle would be identical to the in-game Type 59 and, as such, this vehicle would be best suited as either China’s second squadron vehicle or a battlepass reward.
