Two (three!) interesting things from today's EULA change (AFK ban, age 18+ now, inactive account deletions)

Exactly. The game rules would not be obsolete or different, only because an age limit changes.

If anything, people using certain forms of “shock humour” (at best) or unempathetic language (at worst) can be reason to investigate and ban until proven otherwise.

My other main game, 18+ mandatory, enforced with photo I.D and selfie if in doubt and also automatically requested to become a maintainer for the codebase or part of community management staff -

Quite a few people got carded solely because their language was far too immature and leant far too much into “shock humour” (if you follow my meaning). This was in addition to other rule breaks they had to appeal or wait out (say, 30 day ban, and banned indefinitely until age is proven.)

You still get an email warning you that deletion is on it’s way unless you login to the account:

If you do not have access to the email anymore you can contact Support to have them take a look at it (though they require that you first contact the email provider to try to get back access to the email and provide proof that you have done so):
( https://support.gaijin.net/hc/en-us/articles/115005277969-Additional-e-mail-addresses-binding-Linked-e-mail-addresses-removal-Login-management ). That is however not a guarantee as it is still a safety and account integrity issue in the end.

I think most other games have similar provisions in their documents, i’ve gotten a few of those emails over the years to log in to avoid having the account deleted.

The game isn’t rated 18+ now. It’s just the part of the EULA that mentions what age you need to be to sign the document and agree to it’s terms. The game is still rated 12+ as anyone under 18 can still play with parental consent. Additionally, the age rating doesn’t stop those that are under 12 from playing, it’s just guidance and recommendation for parents to go by if they are going to allow their child to play the game or not. ( PEGI age ratings | Pegi Public Site ) Previously the same TOS/EULA had 16 in the same paragraph but the game has still been 12+ rated.

No, see above.

This isn’t an argument against your position as I agree with your stance on community etiquette and/or lack thereof; however I really hope such verification systems do not become the standard in the future. I disagree in principle in providing images of my personal government issue ID to any authority that isn’t a known and recognized State body (MY State, my country). LEAST of all f2p producers, who frequently operate out of States that have lax to no laws protecting me, especially and because of my being American.

If Gaijin did it, I’d tell them to piss off and stop playing. Because it doesn’t matter that their tax shelter office is in Cyprus (like that Other Company does); it’s still going to Russia.

No thank you.

For us at least, it’s CYA due to what we let people discuss and stuff and not wanting to get shutdown. It just conveniently also helps enforce etiquette and being respectful of others on top of guaranteeing a space you won’t get into legal trouble over dumb stuff. This choice is based on similar spaces getting shut down due to improper enforcement.

It’s the reason staff were explicitly forced to show and be confirmed because if there’s one disgruntled player and they live in a dumb country with weird laws, they could try and attack the project and have it shut down. Like my own country has fined people 35K euro for selling a book without covering it up completely in foil and shoving it in the back of the bookstore only to be handed out on request and order… because the book had people like me in it living happy lives … under the notion of protecting children.

Ideally, the picture is uploaded to a space that automatically deletes it or is entirely under control of the verifee in question, and we don’t keep it on hand or even discuss it.

This is also a totally open source/non-profit project fwiw and staff is spread all across the globe.

Needing to provide photo ID to play a game is terrible

It keeps the community safe.

What’s to stop some enterprising 12 year old to grab their older brother’s ID?

If Gaijin banned all 18 and under there economy is gonna go down very fast as I can see through live stream those 12 years old youtuber being good at the game and having acess to their parent wallet or their own youtube money to buy all premium vehicles… They have alot of it. some even have the E-100 or IS-7…

They need to include their own picture.

The selfie must contain:

  1. A phrase written onto the paper chosen by individual
  2. Face showing alongside the phrase
  3. I.D showing alongside the phrase and face.

Now, generative AI might diminish the effectiveness these days but it works well.

How? It doesn’t have anything to do with keeping the community safe. It’s just an absurdly enforced rule

That’s crazy like why do we have an entire process just make the game 18+ and just block people who’s account have below 18 age. Like even if some kids play the game it’s not that serious

It is if vindicative parents or certain governments get angry at the community being ran for trumped up moral issues and cause it to be shut down.

I was asking a hypothetical about something else, not a specific War Thunder question.

I mean unless certain laws required the game to do so I don’t think they’ll get into any legal trouble. And if laws in that country required the game to verify age using ID they can just do it for accounts in the specific country

It normally does not come up. If you act like an adult and don’t apply for staff, it will never come up.

However if there’s significant cause for concern and doubt, you’ll get carded or you cannot play.

Joining staff also requires getting carded.
