Effective. Deterrent. Prestigious.

Helicopter Tech Tree has been integral part of our Turkish Tech Tree Project and considering Ground Forces mainly focused on top tier, it holds great importance in terms of gameplay. Turkish Helicopter Tech Tree consists of mixture of in/ex-service helicopters, prototypes, upgrade packages and trialed helicopters. We’ve focused on including in/ex-service vehicles in Research Section while adding prototypes and/or export vehicles to Premium Section. So without further ado, here is the Turkish Helicopter Tech Tree:

Description

The Turkish Helicopter Tech Tree consists of 3 main Research Branches, arranged as: Foreign Helicopter Branch, Indigenous Helicopter Branch, Utility Helicopter Branch. Research Section mainly consists of in/ex-service helicopter, while prototypes, export helicopters and upgrade packages and trial vehicles reserved for Premium Section. We’ve took a little liberty in premium section since it really does not effect integrity of the Tech Tree and could be tweaked easily.

The Tech Tree

As I’ve stated, Turkish Helicopter Tech Tree consists of two main sections: Research and Premium. I’ll provide brief specifications and photographs of vehicles. Currently there is total 9 helicopters in Research Section, 6 vehicles in Premium Section and total of 15 vehicle in whole Tech Tree.

  • AB 205

AB 205 armed with M134 Minigun and Hydra rockets in, what I believe, LAU-130 pod. It is likely to have M134 and rocket pod on other side too, but I do not have photograph showing other side of the helicopter. AB 205 possibly has 2x M134 and 38 Hydras in 2x19 configuration. It would perform similar to Japanese UH-1B and Italian AB 205.

  • TAH-1P

TAH-1P

TAH-1P Upgraded to AH-1S/P Standards

Turkey received 4 TAH-1P as trainers alongside AH-1P and AH-1S. TAH-1P is essentially training version of AH-1P, later some TAH-1P upgraded to AH-1P standards. TAH-1P is armed with M28 turret and dumb-fire rockets, so it would be pretty much similar with AH-1G in-game.

  • T129B1

T129B1 is a twin-engined tandem-seat multi-role, all-weather attack helicopter. T129B1 is the second serial-production version of T129 ATAK. After urgent need for an attack helicopter was partially satisfied, T129A production switched to more advanced B-Series ATAKs. B1 is the first version of B-Series T129, B-Series ATAKs are equipped with more advanced electronic systems and better armament.

T129B1 is similar to in-game T129 in Italian Tech Tree, though in-game ATAK is mishmash of B1 and B2. T129B1 should have similar loud-out with in-game version.

  • T129B2 (PH)

Export version of T129B2. Philippines T129B2 has downgraded version of ASELSAN HEWS (Helicopter Electronic Warfare System) package, it is missing wing-tip mounted RF Jammer and Laser Warning Receiver. Nose mounted Radar Warning Receiver is retained and can be spotted. Since Philippines did not buy UMTAS or L-UMTAS, this B2 should be limited with dumb fire rockets and CİRİT Laser Guided Missile with lower Battle Rating. It is a nice premium candidate and does not hinders Tech Tree.

There are few more possible helicopters to include within Turkish Helicopter Tech Tree. Currently, leaving them out but I’ll updating the tree depending on feedbacks.

  • AS532AL

Turkish AS532 armed M134 Minigun and 20mm Auto-Cannon. AS532 has ability to mount gun and rocket pods though Turkish AS532 only photographed with 20mm auto-cannon pod. Another point, there is no photographs of left side of cannon armed AS532, it might or might not be able to carry pod on both sides of the helicopter. Airbus Infograph shows rights pods on the right side of the helicopter but there is no real life images.

  • T129 P1

Very first prototype of T129 ATAK. P1 was built in Italy with the avionics and subsystem supplied by ASELSAN & TAI. Potentially P1 could be added both Turkish and Italian Tech Tree as premium helicopter as it never received any country markings. P1 was also armed with HELLFIRE anti-tank guided missiles, it is the sole ATAK to ever carry HELLFIRE (at least to my knowledge).

There was a suggestion of T129 P1 at the old forum passed to developers. As a side note to this suggestion, I don’t believe P1 ever received UMTAS anti-tank guided missile during its tests (it might or might not received them later in its service life though.). UMTAS’s designs was completed only after P1 made its maiden flight. P1’s maiden flight was in 2009, UMTAS’s design process started back in 2005 and only completed in 2017. Although there is a possibly that P1’s avionics had support and capacity for UMTAS integration, I don’t think P1 should be armed with them in War Thunder.

  • T129B1 (Gendarmerie Aviation Command)

T129B1 operated by Gendarmerie Aviation Command. Gendarmerie Aviation Command received first T129 in 2017 in B1 configuration. This B1 had a minor difference from other B1 at that time, it had its Flare/Chaff dispenser near front landing gear, other/earlier B1 had these dispenser at the each side of of the tail. (According to my personal research, feel free to correct me.). It is not much of a difference, but still could be nice premium if it comes to that. Though, if B1 implemented in their late form, this would be just a Gendarmerie camouflaged T129B1 without any differences.

T129B2 operated by Police Aviation Directorate. Police Aviation’s B2 has similar configuration of Philippines export B2 version. If it was need, instead of Philippines B2, Police Aviation’s B2 could be implemented as premium with similar, limited loud-out.

  • T929 P0

T929 P0 is the very first prototype of TAI’s twin-engined heavy attack helicopter project. P0 completed its flight/hover tests on March 1 2023. Test pilots praised P0 flight performance by saying “they did not wanted to land”. T929 P1 is currently under design phase and said to have new and better nose design. Since there will be proper serial production version, P0 would make nice event/craft helicopter.

Future Prospects

Current version of the Tech Tree only includes helicopters flew in physical form, there is no mock-ups or under construction helicopters. This concept is just to show how it could look like in the future. There are mock-ups and unrevealed helicopter included in this version. Please not that, this is just a concept, original Tech Tree suggestion does not include following helicopters until they actually built and revealed.

  • T129B2 (NG)

Export version of T129B2 destined to Nigeria. It is currently under construction and expected to be delivered in first quarter of 2023. There is no information about which configuration this ATAK will be, though it is known that TAI close A and B1 production lines so it is certain that it will be a B2. Configuration of HEWS Package is another question as well as which armament it will receive. Only thing certain about this ATAK is that its nose gun will be replaced with indigenous TR MEKATRONİK 20mm Rotary-Cannon.

  • T629

T629 is TAI’s new concept for tandem-seat twin engine light reconnaissance and attack helicopter. T629 is based on TAI T625 Gökbey twin-engined light transport/utility helicopter’s platform. T629 is fully indigenous solution of TAI, it is designed to replace T129 ATAK once its license expires (T129’s license ends around 2028). It will be powered by TAI’s own TEI TS1400 Turboshaft Engine. There has been two different mock-ups showcased so far, but no further information revealed. T629 sometimes mentioned as ATAK 1.5.

  • T629 (E)

T629 is TAI’s new concept for tandem-seat twin engine light reconnaissance and attack helicopter. T629 is based on TAI T625 Gökbey twin-engined light transport/utility helicopter’s platform. T629 (E) is the unmanned and electric version of T629. Information about electric version is even more limited than T629. It has ben speculated that unmanned & electric version will be used by Naval Aviation.

  • T929 ATAK-II

T929 Mock-Up

T929 ATAK-II is a twin-engined, heavy attack helicopter project currently in design and development phase. T929 ATAK-II P0 performed its very first flight/hover on March 1 2023. It has been said that P0’s design was not final and will be heavily revised to fix some apparent problems. Still it is not certain which design of T929 will be final, so I’ll share all of the major designs revealed so far.

A really great looking heli tree for Turkey!

Loving the decision of choosing between indigenous or foreign branches, also the premiums look very interesting!

Feel free to contact us further for your feedback and criticism, we really need it!

Looks great, love the addition of helicopters still under development.

Hopefully this will make it in game eventually!

Turkish Technology Tree should definitely come, we are behind it all the way.
If countries such as Finland and Hungary were used by borrowing tools from other countries, Turkey should be involved in this, not only Turkey, but every country that played a historical role should be involved.

there are some problems about ranking but still acceptable and TURKISH TT needs come to the game!!

I would vote NO as a an independent tree, because War Thunder already has too many Tech Trees in-game and we already see nations like Israel or Sweden that are barely touched or played in-game.

However, it would be a nice addition as sub-tree or as stand-alone vehicles in other trees with their indigenous modifications and/or helicopters. I am already baffled by how Gaijin handled the T129 we have in game, that helicopter should’ve been introduced directly in the tech tree since Italy already had a Premium A129 International and would have given the tree a boost (before other helicopters were added in game like Hungary and A129D).

It is one of the most player minor nations and one of the most lucrative too…

The amount of tech trees are a lot in the game indeed, but it being good or bad is up to each player’s opinion. I view them as a good thing as long as they are quality trees, it is nice to see more unique vehicles each time. There are many good tree projects on the forums which will surely provide a good diversity of unique vehicles to the game.

You may be right on Israel part, but there are loads of players playing the Swedish tree and it is quite popular.

We did the math, our tree project has more vehicles and is more unique than some in-game trees like Israel and China. I know they are not good examples but if they can be standalone trees then Turkey definitely should be able to as well.

Not to mention our Helicopter Tech Tree would be one of the largest Helicopter Trees in game, while still keeping it’s uniqueness.

Italy would not need such a heli as a tech tree vehicle since it’s performance is really similar to A129CBT and would really just add useless grind.

The reason why Gaijin added T129 was to replace A129 International.
