Mobility

Tulpar Modular Armored Tracked Vehicle platform can be powered by power pack ranging from 700hp to 1100hp engines depending on weight class and operational needs. Tulpar Light Tank’s power pack is never really officially revealed, yet different names circulating around the net. There seems to be two possible option, either 720 horsepower or 810 horsepower engine. Likely three contenders are MTU 8V199 Diesel Engine, Scania DSI 16 Diesel Engine and Scania DSI 16 Diesel Engine. At the time being, it is impossible to tell which engine was used on Tulpar Light Tank due to scarcity of information. Although it is known that later Tulpar platform was powered by 720 horsepower Caterpillar CT13 Diesel Engine coupled Allison 4000-Series 7-Speed Automatic Transmission, Light Tank precedes this power pack option.

Option 1; MTU 8V199
MTU 8V199 16-Liter V8 Diesel Engine can be rated at both 720 and 810 Horsepower without intensive modifications. It is coupled with RENK HSWL 106 8-Speed (6 Forward, 2 Reverse) Automatic Transmission.

Option 2; Scania DSI 14
Scania DSI 14 14-Liter Diesel Engine produces 720 Horsepower, it is coupled with SAPA SG-850 32-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Option 3; Scania DSI 16
Scania DSI 16 16-Liter Diesel Engine produces 810 Horsepower, it is coupled with SAPA SG-850 32-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Tulpar Light Tank, with the 720 horsepower engine would reach 70 km/h top speed with minimum power-to-weight ratio of 16 hp/t (at the weight of maximum 45 Tons) and maximum 22.5 hp/t (at the weight of 32 Tons). With 810 horsepower engine it would reach 70 km/h top speed with minimum power-to-weight ratio of 18 hp/t (at the weight of maximum 45 Tons) and maximum 25.3 hp/t (at the weight of 32 Tons). Tulpar Light Tank likely weighs around 32 Tons (28 Tons is base weigh, 3105 weighs roughly 4 Tons), with additional armor weight might increase but it is hard to give an exact value. So I made my estimates based on lightest and heaviest possible weight which, 32 Tons and absolute maximum of Tulpar Platform 45 Tons. It is unlikely that Tulpar Light Tank would weigh 40ish Tons, my guess Tulpar would weight would be between 32 Tons and 35 Tons.

Protection

Tulpar Modular Armored Tracked Vehicle is designed with modular armor structure to allow Tulpar to meet different mission specific needs. Thanks to its modular structure, armor modules can be fixed/replaced with ease, and protection levels can be changed to allow Tulpar to fit operational requirements. As Tulpar is developed with personnel safety in mind, it offers excellent protection against variety of threats such as; IEDs, Mines, CBRN as well as Chemical and Kinetic munitions. Tulpar’s protection is qualified in terms of both structural integrity and occupant safety per STANAG 4569. Base protection of Tulpar is STANAG 4569 Level III, thanks to its modular structure protection levels can be increased to Level IV and Level V to meet operational requirements.
