-bad reverse speed
-bad mobility for the most part
-the T-80s being the “mobile ones” arent really that mobile
-medicore/bad gun handling
-reload speed
-autoloader
-hole in armors (99% of shots destroy your breach)
-gun depression
Pros:
-they look cool
As you can see, the Pros outweights the cons, because the cool factor is one of the most important vehicle characteristic.
ka52 is the only worthwhile thing russian top tier has thats worth investing time in. The mbts have fixed capability output, same with the kh38 slingers really
Russian tanks are good sniping vehicles, honestly. Brawlers? Meh, armor can work against panic shots, but players with good muscle memory will just shoot the weak spots, when they know what they’re against.
Mobility’s not the best forward but is worst backwards. Their survivability is almost zero as well; get shot in the fuel tanks? 99% of the time will lead to fuel explosion. Generally penetrated? Either your ammo will cook off or your crew will die to spall or the direct impact with the dart.
With bad mobility comes bad reload speed, which isn’t a good combo in the top tier. This is a huge con in brawling. You could use the 2s25m for brawling, but who would do that? Even with good firepower and mobility, it’s not 50cal proof and is big. Also the FCS is a bit lacking; decent horizontal traverse, but still has that bad vertical traverse, like in any 9.3-11.7 t-series tank.
As always, tanks being Russian means that they have no gun depression, which is only -6° maximum. So good luck finding a flat spot that isn’t in the middle of nowhere.
4s Btw in real life Also We should have never gotten the burlak rather then the T-80BVM (The T-80 burlak uses the T-90M turret(Wrong on that)
Make them realistic. The more you research USSR tanks, the more you realize War Thunder has nerfed the Soviet tech tree in several ways. For example, the BT-7M is modeled as the 1938 variant instead of the superior 1939 version, not to mention inaccuracies in the sighting and suspension systems. Two-piece ammunition, like the 122mm shells, is also mishandled. If the loader is killed and the reload is 75% complete, the progress drops below 50%, even though it should retain its progress if past halfway unless something actively disrupts the process. The Soviets were given the KV-1 ZiS-5 instead of the KV-1 1942, resulting in them having the worst KV variant aside from the KV-220. A tech tree version of the T-80 Burlak should be available as an option instead of the BVM. The BMP Terminator should also be added. The problem is that Russia is balanced in a game where most other nations are not.
bruh t-80 literally accelerate faster than most
t-90 suffer from this tho
true, aside from horizontal traverse
autoloader is more like both pros n cons or so
yes
true
but also
actually competences teamates
smaller weakspot compare to other tank
better for strike task, since ur ufp isnt made of paper(abam sep ve2, get penned by 3bm22 on ufp, very nice)
some things can be added to ease up the pain of the high br soviet-russian tanks
object-187 N° 5 and N°6
object-195 (152mm, a 30mm and ground ground radar instead of thermals)
burlak tanks (getting rid of carrousel ammo racks providing only the bustle autoloader is filled)
maybe object-488? idk if it has a good geverse gear or not
Most of you who have suggested how to go about playing Top Tier USSR has helped by mental tremendously, and I see myself actually enjoying this tree now. However, the consequence of ignoring air really shows after having all 3 of my decent tanks shot out :P
I’ve found myself to be hugging hillsides/buildings more often with the BVM, and this often works out amazingly because it allows me to quickly move back behind hard cover even with the mediocre reverse speed of the BVM.
The Russian learning curve is faaar different from that of NATO tanks, and somehow with the help of this forum I’m somewhat adapting
Every mbt is easily breached, if any tank can complain about breach shots its the abrams since hitting the lower part of it thanks to the massive turret neck results in being 1 shot, but it does survive lfp shots better than any other tank because of the crew layout, no point in ever going for lfp shots on abrams when turret neck exists though.
That gap exists so the gun can depress 360 and probably isn’t a huge problem at realistic tank engagement ranges and aiming, but in game its always going to be a drawback.
Reverse speed is nice sure, but the 11kph? on the T80BVM is good enough, especially when you accelerate to it quite quickly. The autoloader is both good and bad on russian tanks, sure if you get shot in the side it detonates, but you can operate on 2 crew without a lengthened reload.
