Is it that expensive?

Is it again the case with “100 players vs 3 players” in matchmaking, like all previous events?

Was expecting a few skins as rewards cuz the default F-4E is blank and the alternative only adds a shark mouth to the default skin. But instead there’s no prize :(

That looks like you already made a bunch of mistakes just getting into that position

if gaijin is trying into vietnam - they can put MiG-21MF, F-13(as second spawn for example)

Frankly I’m surprised more people aren’t playing the Soviet side as we’ve been winning almost every match.

  1. Ally markers but no enemy markers including the AI, the S-75s can be dodged but require maneuvering in heavy F-4s while mig-21s are around so everyone stays low where the mig-21s feast, the S-75s kinda engage people just above the deck anyways, the shiilka defenders are numerous and ridiculously accurate.
    US teams have to do suicide runs and sometimes it works but most the time it doesn’t and they get slaughtered

Actually finding the missile emplacements is half the battle as without markers US players don’t know until theres smoke in the air so they have to charge heavily defended ground positions and hope they kill them all before running out of spawns.

That’s what you do, you fly high, make the AA fire at you, evade the missile and then just come in and destroy the tracking radar

Yes, and 100 is on the weak side for everyone wants to shoot SAM sites with zuni

this event really showcases the extreme weakness of the F-4E radar which has been modeled incorrectly for years now, with excessive ground clutter even when none should be on the radar
however it showcases how great a ARB EC gamemode could be if implemented
next to that a SEAD event without any ARM missiles involved is just a bad event especially when facing s-75s and a whole full enemy team of faster and more maneuverable aircraft especially so when your phantom is heavy as can be and getting spawn-camped

So, Having Played Both Sides; I’m Optimistic About The Concept / Scenario & Mission.

However Some Balance Feedback:

  1. Too Large PACT Team: PACT Gets 7 Deadly SAM Sites And (Coming To This Later) Defenses. Having A Full MiG-21 Team vs A Equal Sized NATO Airteam Is Rather Unfair
  2. Too Large Teams In General?: Having Had Both 8v8 & 16v16 Matches, I Can Say 16v16 Is Quite Too Much In General.
  3. AI Controlled AA: Darn These ZSU-23s Are Tuned Way Too Deadly, I Understand Passing Over A SAM Site Shouldn’t Be Easy But The Overall Deadiness Of ZSUs Is Overexagurated. Or I Just Have A Skill Issue And Get Unlucky Getting 1 Tapped Every Time I Get Near.
  4. No High Altitude Defenses Against SAM: While I Understand Why ARMs Aren’t Present Here For Their Effiecieny & Not The Purpose Of This Testing Session, SA75s Are Very Hard To Defeat At High Altitude… If Only There Was Such A Thing Called As Jamming Pods.
  5. Off-Map Spawns Of AI: Specifically On Afghanistan I’ve Had Several AA Sites Spawn Outside Border Sadly.

Also Just Side Note, This Is Such An Enjoyable Blast Playing In Squad. Can’t Imagine How Much Joy This Would Bring In Idk. WWM WHEN PLEASE?

Why not overtune the early ARMs like the SA-2 and Shilkas are currently? The SA-2 in game is the model that uses the Fan Song radar for information on the position, altitude, velocity, and azimuth of a target, which should therefore mean the SA-2 should be notchable and affected by stealth through the guidance radar. The Shilkas are also overtuned (or possibly not limited like the GRB SPAAGs). Unless something drastically changed from the multiple tests, neither platform is realistic.

Additionally, adding the AGM-45 even if the developers model it to have a very low accuracy would be better than nothing, as players would still need to bring dumb bombs along.

I think there should be markers added for air targets only at close range like in previous air RB EC tests.

Absolutely agree on ground target markers. These SAM sites are the type that are mostly static and can’t move. Handwave it as there was a recon flight or something and the targets have already been located.

This mode is quite fun, but it desperately needs some form of GCI, an announcer that roughly says where the enemies are from your point of view so attackers have some form of situational awareness. Or exactly what SAM site is being attacked so defenders don’t just have to guess and waste time and fuel flying in one direction when the enemy is in the other. Doesn’t need to be accurate, just a rough indication to point you in the right way like in real life.

Sorry to be a sweaty tryhard but as someone getting their butt absolutely demolished (Been playing since the event started, got 2 kills total. One in a MiG-21, one in a F-4. Rest of my games have been 0-3, including getting guns killed by the same AH-1 3 times in one match lol) what’s the best loadout/weaponry in the mode? The radar guided missiles in the F-4 tend to self destruct on me for no reason even though I have a lock, and the MiG-21’s radar doesn’t seem to work very well.

Is it better to use the SARH missiles or the IR’s? Esp in the MiG-21 as it seems like the radar’s actual locking range is pathetically small (I remember this in the DCS MiG-21 bis but it’s much worse then I remember it being!) and it seems as if the missile has even shorter “detecting the locked target” range then the radar itself, making it effectively a more annoying to use IR missile! (Comedically it makes the same “BRRRRRRRRRRR” noise as an IR missile would when the seeker comes on lol)

I have to say, as a proof of concept for further development, I love it. It feels like the first step to something fresh in a very long time. One balancing note I have is I think the attackers(ATT) could use more spawns per player, or the defenders(DEF) team should have less players. The ATT team has to do double duty in SEAD and CAP, if both teams are completely equal I imagine the ATT will lose more often than not regardless of which planes are on either side.

It’s fun to play, but quite unbalanced right now. The defending side pretty much always wins while at the same time having very little to do. This could maybe be balanced out by lowering the number of players in the defending team or adding some bot planes to the attacking side. Maybe a group of F-105s or something like that.

A jamming pod woudn’t do anything against them for now considering they are SACLOS guided and not fully radar guided. Even chaff don’t work against them because of that.
