Troop Carriers Infantry Discussion - Battlefield Taxi

Armored Personnel Carrier Discussion Page

With the recent infantry testing, I’m opening up a discussion on troop carriers and APCs (Armoured Personnel Carriers) and the role they could play in infantry mode. An APC is designed to transport infantry safely across the battlefield, offering protection from small arms fire and helping squads move quickly between objectives, frontlines, or cover. Some also provide fire support, while others focus purely on mobility and protection.

We already have a number of vehicles in-game that could fit this role, while many others are not yet represented. APCs vary widely some are lightly armed or even unarmed, acting strictly as transport, while others can go toe-to-toe with lighter armored vehicles thanks to autocannons, heavy machine guns, or additional systems. They can range from armored trucks and half-tracks to fully tracked vehicles, and even tanks modified into troop carriers.

Examples could include:

Half-tracks and early armored transports for WWII-era gameplay
Dedicated APCs like the M113 or BTR series
Heavier IFV-style vehicles with lots of protection (depending on era)
Improvised or modified carriers in certain conflicts

What they could bring to infantry mode:

Squad mobility - faster deployment and repositioning
Mobile cover - using vehicles as protection during advances
Spawn or reinforcement points (if balanced properly)
Light fire support depending on armament
Teamplay opportunities between drivers and infantry squads

Balance would be key APCs shouldn’t replace tanks or dominate combat, but instead act as support and transport tools that reward coordination and positioning.

Would you find APC Vehicles Interesting for Infantry Mode?
  • YES ✅
  • NO 💢😡💢
  • Maybe 🤔💭

Curious to hear what others think should APCs be more focused on transport or combat, and what kinds of vehicles would you want to see included?

WT infantry game mode doesnt really work the way APCs are the thing. There are no big maps with multiple control points to argue around. There are not much respawns to risk oneself sitting in APC. There are too few healthpoints to make APC armed.

The game just doesnt work the way APCs are needed…
Tho im all for the changes to be made, so the APCs would become a thing. WT Battlefield edition is way to go.

We already have plenty of APCs disguising as “anti air guns” and “light tanks”

Like @Milashny_Koteyka already said, the current maps are to small for APC’s to be very usefull. So that is something that would have to be changed.
But with bigger maps it would be a lot of fun to hop in an APC and drive to a capture point, and if that APC is armed it can stick around for fire support.

Also thanks for the shoutout on the Braat Overvalwagen. The SPAA model specifically would be a ton of fun for a gamemode like this with it’s six separate machine guns xD

I don’t think that these vehichles should be in game. But the IFV s we currently have should absolutly have the feature of functioning as a mobile spawnpoint.

Yeah, tanks like the merkava can already be used for this, it’s better to have infantry transports as a defendable vehicle rather than a truck that’ll get spotted and destroyed as soon as it spawns

Might come down to spawn points you can bring in a APC car first and protect your self from rife fire

I’d like to give my opinion, but I’m still waiting since the first beta for access to the game mode… Neither I nor my friends have received the supposed invitation to play it…

nor have I

If something already exists as a suggestion but has versions that could work else where like as an APC I will do a shout out if I can. As a armored car it would be perfect plus 1 for Japan if Gaijin allows WW2 one day for infantry. With all that MG power gives some Vietnam war vibes so it would be viable if APC / vehicle squad support happens as a first spawn support vehicle. Early RPGs and rockets will eat you alive though.

They could work as mobile spawn points just as in Enlisted and Heroes & Generals. But having this would mean way bigger maps.

Sure there will be APCs with and without guns depending in the grind. I love Israeli apc, you feel so safe in them by just looking at them.

ya that is one option I see Gaijin would need to come up with definition of what each vehicle does and how it works. Bigger infantry maps is something I hear is happening from some youtubers covering the mode but hopefully we get a mix of sizes. But knowing Gaijin they are likely going to use any excuse to add these types of vehicles because it allows expansions of the tree plus GE vehicles. But what will they consider a true APC vs what I call a support vehicle.

I would consider this a squad support vehicle not a APC though one could likely hold onto the side and go for a ride. More or less meant to fight troops not other vehicles
image

Pure Breed APC (spawn inside go for a ride and all)
image

AFV (maybe depending on what Gaijin wants to do you can spawn inside or go in for a ride)
image

Support equipment (stays with the trooper sits in the equipment line like a rifle cannot spawn from)
image

Though from what I am looking forward to is the vast amount of 1990s heavy APC prototypes the Russians pumped out and did nothing with besides 1 for flame troops. Though the idea is back with lessons learned called the Urban Assault Tank/ AFV. Crewed / Uncrewed options available

Question what would you consider the ROOK? or should it be a special engineering vehicle or something

not every thing and not every version :-) more the better

Merkava Tankbulance needs to lock in

It can’t but we see what Gaijin would if anything do with it. But irl that feature was meant for ammo not people but they put people there sometimes. Can’t put both there.

You never feel safe in an m113

I guess so, but at least the Namers can do the equivalent. Also I think they can store a tiny bit of ammo in the ready rack. Actually, I just found this quote from Wikipedia, “Some Merkava tanks are fitted with full medical and ambulance abilities while retaining their armament (but carrying less ammunition than the standard tank.”
