Trialed Weapons Discussion

With the recent infantry testing, I’m putting forward a discussion on imported, trialed, and evaluation weapons the gear nations tested before deciding whether to adopt, modify, or reject it. Throughout history, many countries have trialed foreign firearms and equipment, sometimes in small numbers, to compare performance, reliability, and suitability for their forces but also sometimes as a way to make sure there domestic weapons where up to global standards. These “trial pieces” often sit in a unique space between standard issue and prototypes, making them perfect candidates for interesting gameplay additions.
In some cases, these weapons were used in limited field conditions, modified to meet local requirements, or even partially adopted before being replaced by something else. This creates opportunities for unique variants, such as weapons chambered in different ammunition, fitted with experimental attachments, or altered based on feedback from testing units. It also reflects how militaries adapt and learn from each other, especially during periods of rapid technological change. A great example of this is the 1995s Japanese police side arms tails where many pistols where tailed all though where modified to an extent to work with Japanese demands. The Japanese plan was to swap out there M60 revolvers. The trials tested the following weapons: Beretta 92, Glock 17, and HK P7 M8, Walther PP and Sig P230.
For infantry mode, this could introduce:
- Non-standard weapons in national trees (foreign designs used in trials)
- Prototype or modified variants based on evaluation feedback
- Limited-use or rare equipment that adds variety without becoming dominant
- Premium or event-style weapons tied to specific trials or test programs
- YES ✅

What kind of trialed weapons are out there what would you like to see?
