Tow launchers should not be folding in battle

And that is wrong too.

when tanks are moving outside of a combat zone, they do so to prevent the barrel from hitting obstacles, that is not modeled in game. youtube.com/watchsi=6tgMU7Et5qAu9rDQ&t=1410&v=YklKDI3XqTU&feature=youtu.be shows that the tow launcher folding and unfolding is controlled by the crew. Long term stress is irrelevant in warthunder because you can drive tanks into walls and obstacles with the gun facing forwards, making this an example of selective realism

The game pretends at realism because too much realism is not much fun. However, things like the Brad’s TOW launcher are a integral characteristic of the vehicle and is important to capture. You know, because its trying to be realistic.
You have zero chance of getting Gaijin to change it BTW.

ok so you admit it is selective realism. If the game is trying to be balanced, then maybe allow you to manually adjust the launcher up or down, because it greatly cripples such vehicles even though most ifvs do not have to deal with this

The other side of your argument is that if you did try to drive faster than 20 kph with the launcher up you break it. Opps.

it doesnt break right away from driving above 20 kph, the concern is long term, by that logic barrels should break when you drive barrelfirst into multiple obstacles, lets not kid ourselves here

Also wrong again. The launch box isn’t the same as a barrel. The only one kidding themselves here is you.

my point was that barrels dont break when they hit walls in game (they cant hit walls they dont have collision, so neither should launchers). Also the reason why the launcher goes down while on the move is based on reccomendations not necessity, so in the long term less maintenance needs to be done on the launcher, otherwise a manual switch wouldnt exist on the vehicle. Do you have any evidence that having the launcher down is extremely crucial and the launcher would break above 20 kph?

Go read the other thread where the passage from the M2/3 manual was quoted.

Yeah exactly we’re they supposed to? yes. Did they ?hell no

but my point is you do a lot of things that you arent supposed to do but can do in the game such as the barrel collision against walls

They flat out stated they wouldn’t add that, years ago

they changed their mind before like when they say no top tier premiums, this is worth changing their mind on because these vehicles would finally be playable on cqc maps too of which there are many

But autoloader modules do not create secondary spall. The basket, being part of the horizontal-drive module does however.

Also probably important to add that what actually eats most of the (low-pen) spall on T-64/80 are two hidden 2mm structural steel platings around and below the autoloader.

In practice, it does not.

Actually Nuh uh.

Ive seen footage of ukrainian 2A4 moving and firing directly at its hull six and the gun remained stabilized.

i havent grinded russia fully yet, but i grinded the german, swedish, and japan trees. I have the oplot fully spaded and when your autoloader is damaged, your turret can still rotate and you can put one shot in the enemy. That alone is better

M901 should and can move with deployed launcher in-game, according to this manual.

On page 2-201, the manual notes:

Page E-21 indicates that the M901 can be pushed and moved at speeds up to 25 mph with the launcher deployed.

Furthermore, The launcher itself is folded and stowed through manual control, not automatically. It can be left deployed if desired.

The takeaway is that movement with the launcher deployed is not necessarily prohibited, but it is only recommended to be limited at much lower speed for safety and equipment longevity. Since the game does not model mechanical wear, reliability, or maintenance concerns (these never will be implemented), I’d argue to remove this useless feature for the sake of ease.

Removing this useless feature would significantly improve usability and make the vehicle much enjoyable. Though, the vehicle would still be required to come to a complete stop before firing, which is historically correct.

and i completely agree! My issue is not tow launchers needing to slow down before firing because thats how wire guided missiles are, my issue is with the folding tow launchers having extra time to deploy before firing. The non folding wire guided launchers dont have to deal with that nonsense. The m901 is even worse because besides unfolding, it has to rotate 180 deg too
