1.1 max speed for mk 80 series bombs. I think the LGBs might be fine up to 1.4 (or I could be thinking about Paveway IVs which are good until 1.40)
Yeah, PW4s are 1.4/1.5 ish, but most are 1.01
Actually interestingly the RET 8 has the old RWR arrangement that reflects the ARI 23284.
The old threat warning panel is still there as well;
Here you can see the old panel removed from a GR1 which was not upgraded in the Gulf War but was upgraded in the Tornado GR4 MLU;
This unit in our GR1 is actually the Gulf Upgraded ARI 18241/2 which is a revision of the Tornado F.3 system (ARI 18241/1).
Couldn’t find a photo on short notice, but here is the Just-Flight GR1 sim, missing the old threat panel but has the first ARI 23284 display;
So RET 8 in game has the oldest possible RWR configuration in its cockpit.
Interesting, I highly doubt that the Italians downgraded their RWR though.
Maybe the devs got lost in the 80s when making the A-200C because it still has the 1980s camouflage when viewing from the cockpit. That probably could be bug reported
On a side note do you know anything about the Italian RWR upgrades for the A-200s? I know the RWR-90 was added before desert storm (could be the same as 18241/2 I don’t know)
Then Ret 6 and 7 got the AR-3 RWR.
I’ve tried to research these but I couldn’t find much other than they were apart of upgrade packages.
I know little about the various German/Italian sub modifications other than general knowledge items.
There we go, old GR1 with the original RWE;
Rear seat with RWE as well;
By 1993 only the testing, training and evaluation aircraft still had the RWE fit, the rest had it replaced with the RHWR (ARI 18241/2).
Okay so this all abit of a mess.
The original RWE can be seen in Italian cockpits everywhere but I cannot see any different displays despite the claimed upgrade to ARWE, so unsure what that config even looks like.
But I have found ASSTA’s with Sky Guardian looking displays fit over the old RWE;
BOW-21;
RWE ( British designation ARI 23284);
RHWR (ARI 18241/2);
Right ARWE (Advance Radar Warning Equipment) fit to the Italian IDS/ECR MLU. I saw one report that claimed its called ELT-553 but that is the SPJ (Self Protection Jammer) so I threw that in the bin, lets all try to read the materials we submit rather than just seeing letters we like. Its actually the ELT-750 which is an ESM product that integrates with the ELT-553 SPJ system.
ELT-750 ESM;
ELT-553 SPJ;
I made a report for it;
Spoiler
Issue:
Both tornado_ids_it_mod95
and tornado_ids_it_ret8
are currently fitted with the ARI 23284 RWR (RWE fit). This is historically inaccurate.
Correct configuration:
tornado_ids_it
(early / pre-1990s) → ARI 23284 (correct as is).tornado_ids_it_mod95
→ should have ELT-750 RWR.tornado_ids_it_ret8
→ should have ELT-750 RWR.
Evidence:
- Elettronica S.p.A – ELT-750 Radar Warning Receiver Brochure confirms that the ELT-750 was integrated as part of Italian Tornado IDS modernization programs. ELT-750 ESM Brochure;
Affected vehicles:
tornado_ids_it_mod95
tornado_ids_it_ret8
Proposed fix:
- Update
tornado_ids_it_mod95
andtornado_ids_it_ret8
to use the ELT-750 RWR. - Keep
tornado_ids_it
with the ARI 23284 “RWE”.
Additionally, I also found this Saab to upgrade German Tornados’ radar warners (it has more documents below the article). Source is obviously trustworthy as the source is Saab. I wasn’t able to find the actual RWR they are being upgraded to, but maybe just a more advanced BOW-21, will have to do more research
Otherwise thanks for the help
We have a report logged for this already.
Aside from this one, is there any other weapon report that has yet to be made?
Is it worth chucking one in for AS-34s?
Nop, I think they were phased out before the implementation of this upgrade. And beside that, they always reject reports on kormorans, since they still go by the rule that only Marinflieger is allowed to have them.
Yeah, this is stupid.
Fair enough
But here’s hoping to new weapon types this year like ARM or CBUs
Yeah, totally, but I was thinking about something that we could get right now. I’ve yet to find that document about PW4 purchase, but apparently nothing of that sort is to be found anywere in the Italian mod site. I would really like to see some kind of press release or similar.
Yeah, they are nice on the Tonka.
But in the meantime, hopefully they add:

Yeah, with L4, PW4 wouldn’t be needed that much, as they are veeeeeery similar equivalents which would work in the exact same way in game.
