The Tornado IDSs are a mess across the board, with too many unfinished aspects to really count but then the specific issues are just as bad
ASSTA1, IDS(1995) and GR1 should be 11.3 they dont have any meaningful upgrades over the IDS, WTD61 and MFG to justify a 0.3 BR increase.
The GR1 should get the same engine has the other 8 IDS aircraft.
The MLU RET8 does probably have the upgrades to justify being 11.7 and I dont know what BR id prefer it to be (i dont have it yet, but slowly working down the italian tree for it among a few other aircraft) and whether it has enough upgrades to manage being at 12.3 alongside the GR4 with Aim-9Li. But it definetly needs some of the outstanding reports fixed ASAP.
The SLE is gunna be a bit wierdly placed depending on loadout. Im not sure if those 240 CM pod + MAWS are a different BOZ-EC to the RET8 or if those are just placeholder TERMAs. but it might be a tad underpowered for 12.3 even when compared to the GR4.
I’m well aware of that. If you had read the text to the end, you would have noticed my mention of the ECR variant. But, as I said, the variant doesn’t matter because the IDS can also carry HARM.
Here is a screenshot from the official Bundeswehr website.
It is one of the few images i’ve seen with 4x AGM-88 fitted at once (granted, not really looked that hard) but its usually just 2 on the wing pylons or 2 on the belly with fuel tanks
As much as I want BL755s and MW-1/JP233 on the Tonkas. The ARMs would just be a sensible addition with the new multi-vehicle SAMs and the SEAD/Deep Strike events.
Exactly my opinion. This shouldn’t have a significant impact on the game’s balance, especially since the new SAM systems can counter incoming missiles. The Tornados still have a lot of potential for War Thunder.
Should already have shown up in the form of sidearm, frankly. Don’t like yanks getting the new bells and whistles, but sidearm would be significantly easier to test balancing and functionality around.
But just like exocet and friends, sensible additions come only too late.
Yes ECR would be great, also I think that in addition gaijin should give ASSTA ingame the Kormoran 2.
Also is it possible for German ECRs to use AGM-88 AARGM?
As for ASSTA SLE, again I really don’t see a point in it except for aim-120 and aim-7 which actually be really cool. Otherwise I think almost all other armaments are available on ASSTA 3 upgrades which are already ingame (like KEPD and BOZ-101EC)
Need this, is this GR.1B? (I can’t remember if there was a specific SEAD variant)
Assuming mitigation for quantity (so realistically you rarely used more than 6) and Brimstone 1s, so only 15km range… I cant think of any reason why it would be a higher BR than the Su-34 with 6x KH-38MTs. If not even a lower BR
Well, to be honest, the ECR is superfluous as a variant (at least in War Thunder). ECR stands for "Electronic Combat Reconnaissance“, but electronic combat reconnaissance plays a less important role for the Tornado. The IDS was far more important for nuclear sharing, which is also clearly evident in the modernizations. The IDS can do pretty much everything the ECR can and more. What it can’t do, however, like all German Tornados, is fire AIM 120 or AIM 7. I think that was just a consideration during the modernization process and nothing more. That’s what the Eurofighter, as an air superiority fighter, was designed for.
But to answer one of your questions, yes, the ECR can carry the AGM 88.
The ECR does have some nice advantages. In exchange for the guns It gets the more powerful Mk105 engines, the emitter location system, and the built-in FLIR. It’s a pretty good trade IMO, at least for CAS.
Yes, well, that’s true, of course. The Mk-105 engines are a great feature; the Tornado could always use more thrust. But since the Tornado mostly carries Lightning IIIs anyway, the FLIR isn’t such a convincing advantage. But sure, depending on the loadout, it can be a small advantage.
Perfect example, the MFRL used exactly as it’s intended
replacing the old Sidewinder only pylon, the aircraft it’s on is already capable of using sidewinders in this position, it’s just sth else that’s holding them
thus it’s practically not a difference at all from the game perspective
for all other missiles that could be mounted on that MFRL the aircraft wouldn’t allow them in this case because the Tornado is only compatible with Sidewinders and missiles that use the same operation Protocol, so IRIS-T and ASRAAM in this position
if you were to mount an AMRAAM or Skyflash or Meteor there it would stay there but neither would the Tornado recognise that it’s there nor would it be able to use it
this Aim-9 is fired from a pylon which normally isnt used for AAMs
which is how the turnadu can mount 4 AAMs
still only IR are usable though.
IDK if the AMRAAM/Skyflash things can be used with the ACM mode.
this pylon, on that wing with the Sidewinder position above and the Wet point where it’s on there has the Necessary electronics to launch ONE Sidewinder
the MFRL is an Empty rail it doesn’t contain any electronis, the sidewinders connection cable to the Aircraft is just going a different route for this picture
you cannot have a Second Sidewidner on the other position on that pylon there because that would require a full rewiring of the Weapons bus wirh the addition of another Launch computer in the 2 position wing Pylon of that tornado
other Missiles require different Avionics both in the Pylon and in rhe main Avionics systems, and the German Tornado just doesn’t have those
there’s a reason why the ADV tornado is an entirely different version, and that rail can’t hold a Skyflash isn’t the reason
