Thermal seekers work in all weathers night and day. The only instance where the Radar seeker would have an advantage is with smoke. But this will only have any affect on a small percentage of launches.
If firing mode 3 is removed too than the Tornado will still have to lock targets with the camera in order fire a Brimstone at them. So heavy cloud cover will affect it just as much as a missile with a thermal seeker.
Fire and forget missiles are everywhere now so we are well past the point that Brimstones will be the breaking point into over powered.
I did not say anything about being night or day (a matter specific to TV missiles), I said for bad weather.
Brimstones with radar guidance will not need such a thing as locking, they can just be fired indiscriminately through clouds unlike IRs. This is why the concern of friendly fire incidents are brought up, because it’s going to lock the first thing the seeker can find.
Only if they add Mode 3 where the missiles find their own targets. I dont think anyone here is supporting adding Mode 3 it would be OP as hell and as you said result in more teamkills than your average PE-8 bombing run.
Modes 1 & 2 require the target to be locked. So the only advantage is being able to continue tracking the target through smoke. I would argue this is inconsequential. And nerfing the weapon on the basis of the Radar seeker alone is nonsensical.
This is the main reason why the Hellfire L is not here. Which is why my main problem is not that the Brimstone is using an inferior mode, it’s that Gaijin still have not added appropriate counters to prevent a weapon having severe powercreep. The Brimstone is yet another victim of this complacency.
Yer about the Hellfire Ls. I think its about time they got added as well. The main argument against them was the Apache would have 16 FnF missiles. Well that ship has sailed now. And multiple nations have FnF missiles on Helis now. The cat is out of the bag.
Actually… I dont think that is entirely true. If I understand how mode 3 works correctly. then it is pre-programmed with a list of targets to look for and doesnt just go for anything and everything within a killzone. Now obviously its not that simple in War Thunder due to mixed matchmaking, but I think it would be accurate enough to simply give them IFF ability.
That is more of a War Thunder only issue and not necessarily one that would be faced IRL. Though that being said, Even in a certain eastern conflict. Brimstones are being fired in volleys over the battlefield without fear of friendly fire as far as I am aware.
With Gaijin believing so deeply in things being perfectly modeled and there being absolutely no room to add anything in a placeholder state that this update will include total overhauls for the Sea Harriers to replace their placeholder parts, 100% accurately modeled BOL for all aircraft and a whole host of outstanding issues on the Tornados to be fixed both loadout options like Martels for the GR1 and the total lack of any radar for the Tornado IDS.
@Smin1080p_WT since countering this weapon type was a big concern, what the counter to the KH-38, the only counter to the missile is Russian pansir but they fight on the same team. Can you give a better insight how the devs came to that conclusion for the KH-38?
