Damn War Thunder—there were only a couple of minutes left in the match, yet I got dropped right into the finale—and this was after I’d activated a +300% XP booster; I didn’t even have time to take off.

I know I’m not the only one this has happened to—and it’s happened not just once, twice, or three times, but countless times. Back in the day, boosters didn’t expire; you could hoard them and head into battle with a specific vehicle whenever the mood struck. But then they introduced expiration timers, giving you just a couple of days to use them. That’s one thing, but the moment you activate a 200% (or higher) booster, the match immediately goes south—whether it’s due to the pressure or facing tougher opponents.

But my “favorite” part (sarcasm intended) is when you have “join in-progress battles” turned off, yet that setting doesn’t work for Nuclear Escalation. You get dumped onto a losing team—a team where players have already quit because they were losing. And the game throws you in there as if you’re a Terminator, expecting you to swoop in during the final 30 seconds or the couple of minutes while the nuke is flying toward the airfield. Like a T-5000 Terminator, you’re supposed to take off in 15 seconds, shoot down an enemy and the nuke (if that’s even possible), rack up points, and turn a lost match into a victory. That must be what the matchmaker is thinking when it drops me into the fight, right?
