Thoughts on different airfields + their in game use

So Airfields, we really only have like 4 different airfields all at a different br that are all the same. The normal spawn airfield and the secondary copy/paste one.

Are there some airfields you’d want to see in game? Perhaps ones on converted highways that only offer fuel and ammo, or maybe from an civilian air port for fuel and repairs? Some forward base with a super short runway that’s difficult to land on or the one from the incredibles?

I really liked the old “baked-in” (the map) airfields that used to be active. e.g. the one in Berlin with the 2 or 3 runways and circular building structure around it, or the ones on the Hokkaido map… (you had to land in between really tight trees).

The visual variations in the airfields were great.

This is not correct - you mix up types and total numbers - at least at prop BRs we have way more airfield types and often just 1 airfield, on one map 3 for each team:

  1. Undefended forward airfields
  2. Undefended forward airfields in range of Roland SAMs defending the main airfield - extremely funny to get killed by a Roland in a 6.0 plane
  3. Main airfields at prop BRs with a standard death bubble of 4 km
  4. Main airfields at prop BRs with dysfunctional airfield aaa (like Kamchatka East)
  5. Multiple main airfields with useless af aaa which will be captured by ai (like Saipan) or secondary airfields captured by enemy ai (like Malta)
  6. Maps with 6 main airfields (3 for each team) with reduced but still deadly af aaa like on the Airbattle Moscow map

100 % Agree - Tempelhof airport was nice and landing between palm trees with a damaged aircraft was always a challenge.

These ideas are not bad - but imho the majority of players see airfields just as a tool to get asap new bombs or missiles.

Adding immersion like that you have to defend you airfield vs enemy ai troops (like Malta, Peleliu or Saipan) by killing enemy landing craft and tanks seems to be not relevant for guys trapped in the grinding hamster wheel.

Alternative airfields make imho just sense for Air SB maps with a working mid to high alt air defense system. Otherwise every guy with a PD radar will kill you even easier than on the better protected main airfield.

Spreading such “additional” airfields far away from the combat zone make little to low sense for the average player.

I’d love return of “Airfield in middle of city” (or between hills, trees) as one of the four options in SB. Make forward slipping useful beyond self-amusement!
