This game is doomed to be a niche game because it lacks a ladder mode

I’ve been playing this game for many years and have completed all the game’s factions. What has struck me deeply is that this game can only be considered an entertainment game, not a competitive one.The lack of a ladder mode means that it’s impossible to distinguish between skilled players and beginners.Everyone is playing in the same environment. The outcome of the game is not determined by the in-game veterans, but by which side has more beginners. The side with more beginners is more likely to lose, because beginners often play with high-level vehicles and leave the game immediately after being killed. This leaves their teammates in a helpless situation. The experience in this kind of environment is really poor.

To be precise, this game should be classified as a"collection game"because its gameplay environment is so unbalanced that it can’t even compare toWorld of Tanks.

It’s horrible to play top tier and see in every game 2-3 planes crashing/killing before minute 2. Ridiculous maps because of Fox 3 rain. All games last less than 5 minutes because they are terrible beatings.

Some BRs are insufferable because of the compression.

It’s a casual game, you can’t take it too seriously or you will suffer from depression.

Eleven teammates managed to take down only two of the enemy’s vehicles. The experience in this game is really poor.

I’ve played over 17,000 matches in the ground combat mode.To be honest,I hate new players. While it feels good to dominate them, having them on my team is really frustrating.

Blame Gaijin for making 1 death leaving so appealing in the first place.

It makes no sense to spawn again if you:

Want to only play 1 tank for various reasons
Are on a map you dislike (not fun)
Are facing tanks dislike (not fun)
Or when you know your team isn’t going to do good in the first place (also not fun).

It’s normal, take a look at this shit

The team has a total of 8 kills and 31 deaths

This becoming a competitive game would doom it.
Competitive games die 100% of the time.
Not a single competitive game made 20 years ago is still played to this day.

Why do people need every shooter be a ranked sweat fest?

Because they think the only way to “balance” things is to make players grind so hard against each other that it smooths out (if any uniqueness or “personality” of the game is lost due to this is irrelevant)

It’s more of a thing that in order to achieve balance in such games, ranked play has to be established as it’s a way to put people of similar skill level into a match together.

@AlvisWisla
Counter Strike is still alive and doing more than fine.

Yup. With Sweden recently I’ll play one tank. Find US shit the bed and most of my team is gone already. Spawn in my plane, get an air kill or two. Then leave the game as they’ve devolved even further. It’s futile and serves only to frustrate me. So, I leave.

Gross over simplification.

Games have different iterations, THATS why they’re not around. Not because no one plays them. Not to mention, 20 years ago? Mate we’re talking about 360 just being released. What exactly do you think is gonna happen with generational changes in systems.

Call of duty is still around
Madden is still around
Counter strike
StarCraft.
Dota
Halo

This is just what I can name off the top of my head.

Because ranked makes sure people don’t troll and actually work together as a team.

Occasionally I have teammates who do teamwork in ASB. Even if individually we’re worse pilots than some of the names I recognize on the enemy team, the fact that we’re constantly marking our position and calling out enemies we spot means our team, on average, ends up with more kills and objective completions than the enemy team.

Imagine if every game was like that - calling out positions, spotting enemy, communicating intent and covering each other’s six. Now imagine the enemy team doing that as well.

It’d make the game mode awesome.

GRB I see it happen a few times too - communication, coordination and teamwork. It makes the usually painful game mode actually enjoyable even against terrible odds.

With SBMM, teamwork becomes rewarded. When teamwork is rewarded and encouraged, you can start balancing and designing missions/maps around true assymetric team-play based gameplay.

No more “Everything needs to frontally pen everything” - if something is blocking a route, work with your team to attack another front rather than rely on brawling. It would make heavy tanks stronger in lower ranked matches similar to rat heroes like lycan or tinker, but on the flipside in higher brackets the low mobility of heavy tanks will leave the frontline too static (and in high ranked DOTA, rat heroes are less viable because of better team coordination preventing them from ratting).

Same idea in air.
A significant U.S victory over the pacific can be attributed to the fact that the U.S favoured having lots of average skilled pilots over a few amazing aces.
What I mean by this is they rotated awesome aces back to train the noobs rather than keeping them dominating the frontline.
What this means is that the U.S had very consistent and effective team strategies that allowed their wildcats to compete with and beat japanese zeroes.

With team-based matchmaking, U.S props might stop being undertiered as teamwork becomes more consistent and aircraft that do amazing in a squad start being great even in pugs.

I’ve recently had the joy of fighting a squadded mustang, hellcat and corsair (probably in VC with how well coordinated they were) fighting my singular ki-61 in ASB and even though I was better in a 1vs1 than any of them… whenever I slid right onto one of their sixes , the rest showed up and swatted me out of the sky. It was very nice to see.

Nobody expects crystal maiden in Dota 2 to beat phantom assassin 40 minutes into the match. However, that’s okay because Crystal maiden kept Phantom assassin on her toes in the first 10 minutes into the match protecting their Spectre who 40 minutes later became untouchable to the Phantom Assassin. There’s no need for PA at 40 minutes to be competent against Spectre because it’s a team game. There’s no need for CM to be competent against PA 40 minutes in and so on. Why does this work? SBMM

@LI1146311427 you can play squadron battles

Ladder? You mean ‘Ranked’ or SBMM?

I’m all for SBMM, mostly because I get pissed my team mates just stopped licking the windows on the bus before getting off and booting war thunder on their PC.
