They should make top tier carrier launches realistic

i think it’s awful, you can pull your nose up while you’re still launching on deck (and your front hook attached to the catapult technically), the speed boost you get is way too fast, it feels like mario kart…what do yall think?

How often do you actually take off on carriers for any of this to matter?

in desert maps the engines heat up more quickly than cold mountainous ones, does it make a difference? not really, it’s just realism and since this game is pretty realistic in terms of physics and the aircrafts themselves they could do it easily it’s just not spoken about it cause yes, you’re right it’s not that important, but trust me people wouldn’t be mad if they updated the launch system

I mean it does matter some planes oberheat faster so you can’t afterburn as long and you have to take breaks.

Soooo… don’t?

Asking for realistic carrier launches in a game where you can clip through your team mates on takeoff is a bit much. The point is to make it accessible for multiple people at a time.

That being said, it’d be cool to have some sort of Sim-PVE mission where you are more realistically launched from a carrier like in the BF3 campaign.

if only carrier launches were even used or neccessary in game… would love how it would filter 70% of the playerbase ngl

Is it acceptable to you that we don’t takeoff from carriers?

i mean yeah kinda. I don’t really play naval aircraft.

It’s fine because you personally wouldn’t interact with it much?

doesnt affect you but I would love to be able to carrier launch and land on appropriate maps while flying my harriers and hornets. high risk from the landings for the reward of a faster takeoff would be very nice

I don’t really get what you are getting at here.

I don’t really even play planes that much and when I do it’s usually the mirage IIIC and nothing else. It would change nothing to me.

And also the only time I remember taking off a carrier was when grinding japan for the R2Y2.

Yeah I never said I am against cardier takeoffs. They can be cool and all that. But this is already missing the point of the thread. The carriers are so under utilised that the issue of the takeoffs being a bit inaccurate is just not reall a thing.

it can be, some naval aircraft have their landing gears ripped off sometimes and trying to get your arrestor hook to actually snag on the deck is quite buggy and inconsistent. its safer to just smack the deck hard enough to catch the line and break your wheels its just sad

I’ll believe you I don’t remember the last time I landed on a carrier.

Before they broke spawning on carriers in air sim - whenever I could.

Sim had carriers relevant on maps such as:

Port Moresby
Tunisia
Dover Strait
Denmark
Sicily.

Carriers on Port Moresby especially came in clutch due to position of airfields relative to the site of groundbattles and air supremacy points. I have a clip of landing on a carrier to survive a damaged engine when the airfield would’ve been too far on Moresby.

Tunisia the carrier spawn allowed you basically instant action. You could emergency-spawn and reinforce your team at an A point from a mere 16 kilometers’ distance.

Denmark …

If you’re on the axis side, you could:

  1. Spawn on undefended airfields and get vulched/spawnkilled by allies
  2. Spawn on defended airfields and fly some 100 km to reach A points and ground battles
  3. Spawn on aircraft carrier and only fly 30-40 km.

Unfortunately, Gaijin broke carrier spawns in sim (you appeared mid air and spatially displaced and immediately slammed into the ground).

Their fix? Disable carriers in sim.

WingalingDragon has a lot of shorts involving carrier operations, including meme ones like landing a Me264 on one:
