The VBCI is close to useless in a downtier

That might be the first vehicle I know that works a million times better in a full uptier than in a full downtier, and for a simple reason: it can’t deal properly with the onslaught of well-armored early cold war tanks. At least in a full uptier, you meet A LOT of light tanks that you can eal with efficiently.
Am I becoming crazy?

I’d say yes.

VBCI (25 mm variant) is pretty much capable of dealing with any target at its battle rating, it will work just fine as Type 87 RCV is doing at lower battle rating. Although lower caliber than 30 mm autocannons, lower damage as well, it should be better due to the fire rate which is a big advantage that will help you work around these flaws.

StatShark show rather low numbers but in my experience I had no problem playing these vehicles; not the best numbers but in my opinion is something, it could be better if I cared using back-ups:

Ye that might have been a bad day when i posted this, anyway, i bumped it to 9.7 in order to play both VBCIs in a single lineup, and it works wonders.

I think you just need to learn weak-spots more, by example at close range you can front pen a lot of soviet heavy by shooting their drivers port, it’s just that the shot analysis doas not show drivers port has green

Aiming for driver port when you meet a soviet MBT face on in a VBCI is not an option: it’s gonna kill you before you can disable him (if he misses his first shot tho, we can talk). And at longer range, it’s better to just duck/escape, considering that the gun lacks the precision to spray efficiently such tiny weakspot at long ranges.
