The unfair nerf of the Eurofighter Typhoon

M2.3 isnt a speed the EFT is ever gonna acheive in a real game anyways with how horrid its high speed acceleration is atm. You’d likely hit the map border before you get to it.

You won’t find accurate performance figures on the manufacturers’ website. Under-reporting is pretty standard in “official” data sheets. Usually, they put >Mach 1.8 (maybe whoever made the web page forgot to put the ‘>’ symbol.

As an aerospace engineer, I’d be very surprised if it couldn’t break mach 2 under the right conditions.

But that’s also the trouble with these, we’re not told the conditions. The max speed could be Mach 1.8 with a given fuel/payload or at a sub-optimal altitude. We just don’t know enough about where that number comes from to have any confidence in it.

In short, don’t just take a single number with no other context as gospel.

Statshark shows its capable of M1.46 at 9km alt under all fuel loads, but in-game tests show otherwise (which is why I always caution ppl to take statshark numbers with a grain of salt).

Statshark speed by altitude graph for 100% throttle:

Tests performed in the last hour:

I left each test running for roughly 10min to guarantee flight speed hit 0 m/s^2 acceleration.

Test performed on Feb 12th 2025 at the request of a tech mod:

The EFT’s supercruise speed has not changed between then and now with 4+4 load. Maybe it had its supercruise capabilities increased on some hyper niche scenario nobody is ever going to be in, but that’s about it if it was changed at all.

My (unspaded) Rafale F3R reaches M1.27 under similar conditions btw, and I have a sneaking suspicion it surpasses the EFT when spaded.

It never hit M1.48 before or after the change under any realistic conditions. I dont think it was ever able to hit M1.48 supercruise under any condition ever in-game, barring maybe less than min fuel + no stores. The complaints were over the fact that by literally every credible source out there, the EFT is underperforming in supercruise capability, and gaijins actual answer to that was, and I quote:

Man, now you just lie, stop.

@ShOt_MaCkEr
Facts are not lies.

The post has been updated, sadly you’ve been called a liar by Shot’s post.

Facts being that it’s anemic at speeds exeeding 1000km/h right now. And I checked it. Idk where are you coming from here. And no, it’s only you being called a liar here. How do you explain artificial lock at 12g in any turn, that doesn’t let it bleed enough energy to enter high maneuverability modes? Or I don’t know how it works, the flight model or the instructor have been changed a lot, making it anemic at high speeds.

Calling man a “dawg” while all you do yourself is bark, funny

Come on Shot, I know you’re more rational than that post.
12Gs is high maneuverability, even 9Gs is.

And the fact that your post is calling the Eurofighter corporation liars and artificially nerfing the Typhoon by making it the best airframe in War Thunder is honestly irrational.

Now that’s a stab in the nuts. I would like to believe you man. And obviously it might still be the best airframe in the game. But compared to what we had during the previous patch - it has been nerfed. My biggest regret is that I can’t quite figure out what exactly has changed, while knowing, seeing and feeling that it has been. Same as some other people though, so I know that I’m not going insane.
I’m not an ARB player, because I hate the new low visibility meta, that’s why I judge purely from it’s GRB performance. And with 18xBrim/2xASRAAM/2xAMRAAM loadout it’s not functional anymore. During the patch day I’ve conducted a run with “anti-pantsir” loadout (6xBrimm, 8xPavewayIV) and got shot down by a pantsir, because typhoon refused to turn. Which is shameful. Jokes aside - I do really want to get to the bottom of it. And my bet is that they did something with instructor. I’m gonna try full real controls right now to see if it feels the same with a previous patch.

Now THAT post is what I expect from you.
I apologize for my previously harsh post; I wanted to see you stop lashing out and start questioning.

Yes, the Typhoon went to 12Gs, you will need to adjust for that change if you’re not use to it.
Yes, there’s new drag at the highest indicated speeds, you’ll need to adjust for that.

What hasn’t changed, which is what my initial post was addressing was the 900kph area where air RB furballs are managed, and brakes off to mach 1.5 which matters for the start of the match in hyper-aggressive play.

That was the parameters of my post, not exceeding those parameters. Not 1200kph, not mach 2.
And I apologize that wasn’t specified at the beginning.

I’m sorry for being all emotional before, would never happen again.
It’s actually not 12Gs

Spoiler

With the loadout that I use - it’s 9, lol

I looked further into what kind of trouble I’m having right now. You see, with that loadout, for example, at speeds higher than ~1200km/h performing the same turn as on the screenshot above It just refuses to lose speed because, I presume, low AoA that it’s allowed to pull. You can try it out yourself.
When it comes to low speed maneuvers - my point is that it became janky all of the sudden. With or without the AoA button. With the limiter off, for example, instructor tends to level the frame seemingly without any reason to do so. Because you enter a turn, turn off the AoA limiter - frame is being automatically leveled, turn it on and it performs the same turn just fine, off again - leveling of the frame. My bet here is that they meddled with stalls (possibly drag as well) too much, which as we know, instructor is trying to prevent, hence all the overcompensation. I tested the F-18 and for some reason it’s low speed maneuverability feels much better, like it’s pulling where it is pointed, instructor isn’t trying to obstruct your commands. Unfortunatelly I haven’t been paying enough attention to it’s flight model before this patch, because I’ve been fully satisfied with it and the only thing I wasn’t expecting is a nerf, lol. That’s why I struggle to put my feelings into numbers right now.

Wait until you find out F-15E is 6-7Gs with its loadout. ;)
Yeah, the heavier an aircraft gets, the instructor adjusts.

Also if you want some advice: Full internal fuel is a bit over 7 minutes on full afterburner.
If you want to do ~4 minute sorties, run 17 minutes of fuel on spawn for Typhoon.

With 6xMaverics that’s hardly a problem. In order be as effective with brimstones you need more than this, ahaha.

That’s exactly the amount I usually take.

That’s the whole point. We’ve been talking about the pulling performance and radar of the Typhoon. I have not complained about its speed because it has been great since it came out. Unlike it’s radar that is as bad as it was before and now the 12 G’s at high speeds. So I hope this topic gets recognition and Gaijin does something about it because if we are being honest, the Typhoon should be one of the best performing aircraft out there alongside the Rafale, Gripen and maybe the F15E.

The EFT was by far the most capable jet FM-wise in the game and could effortlessly walk over anything else, how was this fair? The nerf was more than deserved.

That’s the whole point. The jet is built like that for a reason. It is supposed to pull very hard. But Gaijin indeed mess up it’s energy retention since it should be worse. The energy retention for most delta wings is absurd (Gripen, Rafale, Typhoon etc.). That’s not the only nerf. If you had the Typhoon you wouldn’t say that the nerf was deserved. Now even the russian jets have a better radar when it is supposed to be about the same, performance wise.

I would because it’s just straight up unfair to everyone else lol, it can out-dogfight everything else, out-BVR everything else, has a really good loadout. There is no downside to the EFT over other jets at its BR.

Then it shouldn’t have been added when it was, or should have a much higher BR. You can’t have it both ways.

Damn almost like it was designed for it.
This is like complaining the Spitfire was good.

Rafale is no Mach 2 aircraft. All sources state 1.8 max. Except war thunder. Rafale also pulls 15g, while its contenders can’t. Rafale also have an unprecedented op radar and the 50g micas.

Rafale is Gajins fav and weeps the floor in GRB and ARB.
