The REAL Abrams Problem

It’s about balance.

Essentially calling the Strv 122’s, Leopard 2A7V and Leopard 2A7HU ‘‘trash’’ tanks.

A Thodin classic.

Also need to fix the LFP armour.

Go into armour for the Sep V2 or any Abrams and choose the 45mm Russian APHE from the BT7 or whatever and aim for the hull under the turret ring in the middle to find the spot of penetration.

The problem with changing anything on the Abrams now, (and by extension the leopards because of the turret ring addition), is that the goalposts for documentation and implementation are constantly moved, and the bug report system is seen as ineffective to deal with what plagues these vehicles. Constant threads have brought this up, including th simple changes to armor and the way it’s done. There could be a lot of headache saved if the Abrams got its bulkhead updated, the baskets modeled as the should be, independent of the turret drive, and a realistic turret ring, all of which have been documented and pictures shown. That’s not even mentioning anything about DU hull upgrades and the sources that Gaijin used themselves to justify the current variants not having their historical armor. But id first focus on the turret ring and bulkhead to start since that has already been reported to be changed for YEARS.

Tip to America mains from someone who uses the Ariete AMV alot: if you are getting hit enough to the point where you rely on your armor, rethink how you play the game.

Armor at top tier and in general (unless like a Churchill VII) is meant to be a last resort of defense. You should rely on your mobility and gun (5.0s reload is plenty) and use the map’s cover to your advantage.

Hot take (well not really): the M1’s armor is perfectly fine, and actually is better than a T-80’s or T-72’s hull down. All you gotta do is peak from cover and return, if you get hit in the cheek you are fine. To escape breach damage you can move the turret, or just peak and return quickly.

You should NEVER brawl in a tank except T-90 or 2A7 unless you are absolutely sure you have the advantage and will win the fight. Top tier isn’t about brawling, it’s about good flanking and hull down sniping.

There is a .30 cal, the loader has a M240.

For the OP: the gun does work, just on M1A2+ you can shoot forward due to the CITV blocking it’s path. This doesn’t really affect anything as the .50 still works fine, and the .30 can still go side to side or up for anti air defense.

I have now downloaded the Onion

Thanks for joining the conversation.

To get you up to speed, we are talking about these two parts specifically.

This doesn’t work in War Thunder when small maps exist and what matters in Top Tier is armor and unfortunately the US lacks in that category.

I used to write bug reports and collect documentation. Then I realized that Gaijin only considers bug reports related to the Soviet tree.

Yes, but the Abrams has no armor. It can even be penetrated in the front of the turret. In my opinion, the Abrams has the worst armor in the game. Soviet tanks have the best.

Most of those spots unfortunately already have accepted bug reports.
The game needs click bait zombies to grind so I understand them not making the Abrams realistic and keeping it balanced.

I remember when we were asking for DU armor for the Abrams, we were told it wasn’t used very often in real life and therefore wouldn’t be in the game. But they shut us up by giving us a 5-second reload time.

It’s essentially the same shell. But even the HSTVL can’t penetrate the Soviet tank’s turret.

Guess to add. Is there any armor or such around the engine? specifically between the turret basket and the front of it? (Mainly if there is, Could help a little bit with spall not taking the engine out every single time.

Also not to mention the fail safes for hydraulics but thats a pipe dream atp.

easy. Mask penetrated with panzer IV, not even an autocannons. Same as driver`s hatch.

no you see clearly western engineers couldnt figure out how to make compact turret drives so they are 5x larger than soviet tanks.

99% of cases in which a apfsds shell bounces ingame should instead shatter it. and besides the main problem with the turret ring on the abrams are autocannons, if it had the realistic 250mm it would be fine
