The vdm is goated now, ive won in 1v7s with that thing. Only now its kind of hard because of the bomber update is just uneccessarily prolongs games
If you are a good pilot id say you can get anything at your BR (including jets) except things like a spitfire LF 9 or a mk22/24. The plane still could be a lot better if it were true to history, and it is still over BRed relative to other planes, but ive found that aircraft from like 4.7-7.0 are completely scattered on how their BR placement should be, and its likely because the pilots suck at these BRs
Just stay under 6000m and you are fine.

So rn the VDM’s only plane to which it has no counter is the LF Mk.IX as with all other planes it has at least one advantage.
Just like the LF Mk.IX it’s hard to balance due to it’s great performance in a downtier… however at 6.3 it’s still a little too high. The compression and lack of speed means it’s basically impossible to engage jets that do not full commit in a dogfight.
I’d say 6.0 is a fine br since it’s slightly worse LF Mk.IX.
In any case we’ll see it go up in br in the next br adjustment because Italian plane must be at least 0.7 br above planes with similar performance in other tt and rn it’s just 0.3 above the LF.
