War Thunder is becoming less and less realistic with each update. Mainly the matchmaking. It’s a problem, because this game, according to google, is a “Shooter Video Game, Simulation Video Game, Vehicular combat game”.
Historical matchmaking is considered to be very unbalanced and that is true. However, right now we completely sacrifice realism without any gains in balance. Matchmaking is often unnecessarily unhistorical. For example Ikv 103 is at 4.0 with 400mm HEATFS. There is absolutely no reason why it should be at 4.0, with this round it can easily kill T54s. T54 is still better, but the difference is not big enough in my opinion to make it this unhistorical.
Even e-sport games aren’t perfectly balanced. It’s a choice between some vehicle being better than the rest, because that’s how it was in real life or because that’s how Gaijin/community wants it to be. I strongly prefer the first option. With the first option balancing discussion is centered around objective facts, with the second option it’s based on personal opinions and biases. For example russians got R27 ER for no reason. With apex predators they could add MiG 29 with R73 and R27 R and F16 block 20 with AIM 9M and AIM 7M. It would be both historical and balanced.
