The nukeless: discussion, strats, best runs, and more

This a spot for all the noobs who haven’t gotten a nuke to chat, and discuss strategies/closest runs.

the closest I have been is in Swedish 6.7, with ≈1800 SP

Closest : T26E5 (got the nuke but shot down with 15 kills), or XM800T (2k sp). I’ve gotten close quite a few times, either by playing really aggressively in a speedy tank or focusing on positioning with a heavy tank. The best way is to just learn decent routes on maps, and be able to think ahead for situations. U also need patience, pushing too far ahead gets u killed

I want to drop a nuke, but i rarely kills more than 2-3 tanks in a battle.

If someone under 20 nukes give you advice, take it with a grain of salt, the vast majority of player only ever nukes due to luck more than skill

I’ve gotten 3 (twice in the king Tiger and once at 8.3 Germany) but dropped none of them. Yeah your right, I don’t know how to get one reliably

The most reliable way is to just play a vehicle that you feel comfortable with and can reliably get 5+ kills with. Aiming for a nuke will reduce your chances of actually getting it since you will probably play less cautiously and thus increase the chance of you dying.

Luck also plays a big part in getting and dropping the nuke. If the enemy team has a lot of one death leavers and similar you are out of luck and probably won’t get enough score to even spawn in the nuke.

And even after spawning in the nuke (especially at lower tiers with the B-29) it’s up to luck if you get shot down or not.

Twice I had around 2300 or 2400 points, and either there were no enemies left, or I ran out of ammunition before I could destroy anyone.

Try this for a disapointment

I can share a few tips. I’ve dropped 12 nukes and been shot down or ran out of time in the nuke plane several times.
your best option to get a nuke is find a vehicle or lineup that you generally do well with, and play it a ton. Cap points when you can, don’t rush in too fast. Play to your tank’s strengths, learn weak spots and good positions.
if you have any of the really good SPAA tanks like the xm246, falcon, gepard, they have a lower SP cost, so use a tank to start, get a cap or two and some kills. if/when your tank is knocked out spawn the SPAA and repeat.
Eventually you will have a good match and be able to drop a nuke

After dropping 31 nukes now, it really boils down to a few things.

  1. Lineup: If you have a lineup you know you do well with (and it’s in the Nuke BR range), play it. Lineup diversity also matters a lot, as if you have different vehicle types, you still have low SP cost options after you die.
  2. Maps: If you have a favorite position on a map that nets you a lot of kills with few deaths, play that position.
  3. Avoid CAS usage: Unless you know damn well you can make back the SP cost of CAS and get more on top of that, avoid playing it if you want a nuke.
  4. Enemy psychology: Know how your average enemy plays certain vehicles. If the enemy team sees you stacking kills in a particular spot, they WILL try to kill you with CAS and ground spawns, keep alert and know your surroundings.
  5. Luck: Yes luck us a major thing in getting nukes. Sometimes you do everything above perfectly and you still come up short. I have probably spawned 50-60 nukes now and only managed to drop 30. The nuke aircraft plays massively into this factor, as the B-29 is the HARDEST one to use.
  6. Uptiers/Downtiers: Remember, if you are in a downtier, you earn less SP, meaning you have to do a lot more to make up for it. Uptiers mean your vehicles are cheap and the SP you earn is more impactful. Kills, Caps, and even soaking up damage will net you a lot of SP provided your situation is right.
  7. Time: Several of my unsuccessful nukes come down to a lack of time left in the match. Ticket bleed, 60 kills, capping the enemy point, etc, will destroy your chances of dropping it. Even if you ask your team to let you drop, there’s always those players who do not care. It takes about 2 minutes for each aircraft to drop their respective nukes, so factor that in.

This. I got 3 nukes so far by playing the 5.3 EBR in 6.7-7.7 matches. You’d be surprised how fast the uptier bonuses stack

Oh that’s why I stay afloat as long as I do using the M24(TL) in 5.0-6.0 bracket games

also the M24(TL) is really good

with the way people talk about US 6.7, It has piqued my intrest and I am grind to it(3600rp left for M36 GMC now!)

You get some of he best heavy tanks in the tree + the best US WWII era CAS. And if you uptier slightly to 7.0 with the T29 it makes it a very potent lineup.
