The next step for battleships

I dont know how WoW works except for it having tone of fictional ships but here is quick summary of what would happen:

your beloved Nassau stuck in perma uptier against Bayerns, Hyugas, Poltavas, Marlboros every round
emden being apparently on the same tier as hms Rodney (both from mid 20s)
german type 1936 destroyers facing against Helenas (both from mid 30s)

we need more ships and more decompression and definietely not historicl matchmaking

I think there can be both. You are going to have roughly the same situation as you do in ground now with mostly WW2 tanks fighting mostly WW2 tanks, but there are still exceptions. It’s also going to depend a lot on what refits they have. The Hood is a WW1 ship, but does perfectly fine where it is because of extensive refits.

my point is that a light cruiser is never going to be fairly matched against a battleship of the same era, same as the destroyer will never be able to take down a cruiser. The current balancing model deals well with that, matching early destroyers against early destroyers, advanced destroyers against early cruisers, advanced cruisers against battleships.

tanks work differently and are pointless to this discussion, since even the lightest heat slinger has similar chances of taking down a light, medium or heavy vehicle of the same era

I don’t see them ever changing it so that destroyers only face destroyers or cruisers only face cruisers. I like the current system in so far as you can have a destroyer fighting a cruiser and cruisers fighting battleships. It makes it a challenge, but it’s certainly not impossible. I like being able to take out a battleship with a Shimakaze or taking all the guns out on a cruiser with a destroyers. They each have their roles, and if they stick with them, they’ll have every chance to do well.

but I agree with you dude. The current system is working well. The other guy proposed historical matchmaking and thats what I dont agree with since there will be no balance in that scenario.

I think we do largely agree. I can see a situation after decompression of changing around what era ships face each other again with exceptions. The largest issues in naval right now in my opinion are botting, map/spawn sizes, and BR compression. I’d bring up the coastal split too, but it’s such a mess I have no idea how to fix it.

agreed these maps have coastal be such a priority some times taking up 1/3 of the map the only coastal ships i see that aren’t used for just capping are Russians. the spawn to spawn shooting is the singe biggest problem even over compression in my opinion as it makes positioning almost feel like luck you didn’t get shot instead of taking a strategic area for your team

I agree with botting and compression but maps for me work alright. There are some that could use some improvements but generally I like the mix of big open sea ones with more steady gameplay and small fast paced brawls like african gulf which reward fast thinking and good aim.

Coastal split is fine too but there is no point of IV nd V tier existence. In my opinion all frigates could be moved to 1st and 2nd rank of bluewater tree and matched with RP costs of those ranks, but they could still be unlockable after 3rd tier of coastal.

I’d like to see some more EC sized maps where you don’t start out within range of enemy ships. I think it would allow for more tactics and maneuvering. One of the things completely missing from this game is any kind of fleet action. In my dream scenario, you could be part of a fleet either as a battleship dealing big damage, a destroyer keeping other destroyers and cruisers from getting in range to launch torpedoes or using your torpedoes against larger ships, or sailing an AA cruiser and keeping planes out of the formation.

It might come eventually, but it’s just something I believe would be fun.

Well, EC is available during weekends and Im pretty sure if players amount was high enough they would expand it rest of the week. I think plenty of people dont find this mode suitable (myself included) because they dont want to be tied to the game by the length of the battle, especially on workdays.

The 2nd idea would definietely require a different reward system. Irl all ships in a fleet always support each other. In WT, well not so much. I can remember well battles where only 1-2 BBs spawned on each side and we had unspoken agreement of not shooting each other until each and every cruiser inthe lobby was sunk. Without heavily rewarding teamplay we will always end up with a sealclub

It will be calm that gaijn will add a bismarck that will be unbalanced like scharnhorts, and people will throw themselves at him, they will start buying bonuses and skip the tree because hehe bismarck, and gaijn will forget about the fleet for the next year, and bismarck will swim and shoot and smash everyone, I myself have kd 8.0 on scharnhorts, and I know that gaijn has ships in the ass and they treat it only as additional income, and it will be the same with yamato when it appears, it will be unbright or iowo.$$$$$
