The new "Citadel hit" markings for update Tusk Force

I haven’t seen much talk about this addition coming next update. But personally I’m a bit confused about the “Citadel Breached” icon that’s coming to naval.

This appears when a ship penetrates the main armoured belt of a battleship by the looks of it.

This displays a new icon, a sound effect, and a message in the hitcam when it happens. (like in the attached image)

I would like to hear what people think of it! Personally I’m not the greatest fan of it as it isn’t tied to damage done, just the penetration of the main belt. Which I think will only lead to confusion with WoWS citadel pen significance.

So please, share your thoughts!

I havent tried it out yet but I was intrigued and might go do a match or 2 to try it.

It may help identifying when you are just wasting shells or when you are actually penning but the Citadel is such a large area that it might cause confusion.

My main annoyance with it is that on some ships it’s a rather pointless indicator. Take the test drive Westfalen for example. it’s main belt is so low and slim that it’s very rare for the “Citadel Breached” message to appear, despite doing crippling damage.

This was a salvo from Rodney against the target, even knocking out one of the boilers but not registering as a citadel hit.

So one of my “worries” is that it’s just not really a metric or goal that should be looked at. As it doesn’t indicate or relate to the actual damage done.

Okay, that is wierd.

Yeah, I was picturing it basically appearing whenever you penned the main armour around hte citadel, but boiler room should be part of that

that’s the thing, it only registers when penning the main armoured belt

on westfalen this is so low and slim that at range you can just arc your shells over it and while hitting things “in the citadel” not receiving the “citadel breached” message.

I’m kinda hoping it’ll be an optional icon much like the shell hit icons are.

Then yeah, either the name needs to be changed or the functionality changed.

isn’t the citadel a place which will protect all the weak part of the ships? like the engine room and ammo place and also where the crews will surely be. So I assume you can switch to HE or SAP to deal more internal damage to the ship.

Unless they are adding a mechanic like that.

The citadel refers to the most armoured part of the ship, which yes, is usually the ammo and engines.

but pointing out hits in this area is a bit redundant as what we need to aim for in game is the specific modules inside the citadel. A message saying we breached the main belt is pointless. Because we can already see whether or not we did that, and exactly what we hit inside of it.

WoWS makes a really big deal out of hitting that area in general because of how their damage system works. But the importance of just getting into the citadel in WT isn’t enough, what’s important is what exactly you’re hitting.

Maybe not the best example but in these images you can maybe see part of my issue with this marking.
a fresh spawned test drive North Dakota is at 88% crew (or 88% HP if you want to see it that way)

A non citadel hit, just above the citadel, takes out 12% of the crew

a follow up salvo which did breach the citadel, only did another 6% damage.

So I have a hard time seeing the actual use in this distinction of what is and isn’t a citadel hit. It’s not dealbreaking or anything but I worry that for people less familiar with the naval damage model they’ll think that this rather arbitrary “Citadel Breach” announcement means they did critical damage, while this might just not be the case.

In relaity if the citadel have been breached it shall pretty much kill the ship almost instantly. It like you broke through the armor that protect the heart of the ship so… I assume Gaijin shall make it more relastic. New Player will defintely surely think it an critical damage but it more of a severe damage.

Not really, plenty of examples of the “citadel” being breached on many ships and them not just surviving but still fighting. HMS Exeter is a good example

Btw I know this is not the place but how does HMS Vanguard performs these days ?

I’m planning to grind it due to Bein my favorite British BB design but I don’t want it to be for nothing.
