I’m also not sure if the 101mm backing plate is fully modeled or not. At extreme angles you can still pen the LFP relatively well even with weak APFSDS. To me which is weird. If you’ve got a 390mm to 400mm ke protection plate at 65 degrees that’s more than 800mm but a 550mm ke round can still punch through and ice the driver if aimed right.
I just think the basket soaks up a bit more spall than before because they modeled the basket sheet a certain way (but it still allows quite a bit of spall). Nothing like fuel tanks with 0 armor plates (the better spall liner).
Hmm, theoretically 🥲… Ugh. I really feel as if a powerful round slices through the UFP idk if fuel and spall liners is gonna soak up massive chunks of hot metal dispelling them into harmless nothingness. But hey.

It kinda makes it where you can sloppily aim for the LFP and usually be fine. I can 3rd person the LFP and not worry too much unless I genuinely mess up my aim. But like all damage models in war thunder there’s still a chance the code rips you off completely and screws you. Spahgetti’d.
It’s a bit more nuanced than this. It depends on the type of plate (Composite, RHA, HHRA, Structural Steel, etc.) and thickness. There is a sweet spot where its not too thin to overpen, but still retains the maximum residual penetration for spalling (~400mm). I personally do not know the numbers so I can’t specify what they are.

Yup. Devs have an accepted report on it too. I messaged most of the devs before giving up after 3 months if no responses and ergular follow ups.

Come to think of it, the t-80ue/goon is 12.0 and it couldn’t even handle the 12.0s bebrams, does it has any business sitting at a br where it faces the v3 with 3bm46? lol
Let’s also talk about leopards, as much as I hate to say it, leopard 2a6 and pso needs to move down to 12.3, unless it received at least gen 2 thermals it has no reason to be 12.7, commander sight is useless.
Probably ridiculing all the people (and my reply isn’t targeted at you), mostly US mains, who genuinly don’t believe that the Abrams is one of the best MBTs at top tier.

not defending abrams here yet, its just that i geniunelly dont see that clip as anything insane. Abrams fuel tank ate spall and still left the engagement without track, driver and turret ring/basket.

Ngl that wasn’t good positioning. You gave him way too much of an angle and shot the frontal plate at such a degree it makes sense it didn’t spice him. If it was a T-90A the shell would’ve shattered on the UFP through the fender for example…
What you could’ve done was hug the building closer so he needs to come at an angle closer to 90 deg side on, therefor he needs to actually adjust from the shot and has to present a meatier target while also taking longer to be able to see you at all. Just my two cents…
It is, but a bad shot like that has nothing to do with “armor” when a T-90A would’ve blocked a shot like that… It literally clipped the frontal armor array. Why would you sit at an angle that gives your enemy any ability to face the front armor your way at any relevant angle without you being able to get the 3/4 of his crew compartment?
I know this because I used to mess up that shot on T-80Us all the time then complain the armor is busted. It’s not… I’m not aiming properly nor am I positioning properly. To his credit, given the bad position he put himself into. He shot relatively quickly but being the quickest doesn’t always win the engagement on a game as inconsistent as WT.
You MUST min max the possibilities of neutralizing enemies. That’s unfortunately how top tier is rn. Regardless of who you face (unless it’s an Ariete).

If you moved closer to the hard cover to your right. If he wanted to peak you, he would’ve been fully side on letting you shoot his crew compartment fully side on rather than having his frontal composite eat your spall up… Not rocket science for even the average ground frequenter. I’ve done that shot on T-90s and T-72s and used to whine about the armor being too tough when it was my POSITIONING that was the issue.
Anyone who plays this game for a good amount of time and learns knows that the weak side armor where the crew is right behind is better to aim for than the corner of the frontal composite array. You may be able to go through seeing as the LFP is weak but still. That’s 359mm LOS (yes I tested it, at an over 55 degree angle not including the fuel tanks + bulkhead. Which btw is missing like 30mm of armor in that spot). Which has far worse chances of doing spall damage than going through the 60-90mm side plates… It’s not hard to understand.
The Abrams likely still would have a shot on a vulnerable spot of the T-80U before the T-80U could cripple it though in that situation.
