The MiG-25PD's radar is unrealistically bad

I really do not think the MiG-25PD’s radar is accurately modelled in-game. It struggles to lock anything, even with no surface clutter at <10km distance where the radar returns should be very strong. It seems to just lose lock ridiculously easily (even a slight turn can defeat it), and even to try acquire the sky sometimes when you are trying to lock an enemy. Not to mention the very obvious lack of the BCV-ΔH mode on it, which was its only source of LD/SD ability above 1000m. It’s miserably bad at doing anything and I cannot understand that a missile-based interceptor could make it past trials with a radar that terrible.

It has some quirks, but its actually pretty strong for its BR. Just spend more time getting used to it.

Yeah, it’s not great at searching, but it holds locks excellently.

That’s right buff it and push it higher, I don’t wanna see it with my 10.0s

maybe it does deserve to be a little higher. Right now it wouldn’t really stand a chance at 11.3 or 11.7 but perhaps if it did get a buff it could compete higher. It is kinda wild that it goes against planes with no countermeasures, with the R-40s that are basically mini R-27s.

Yeah, for my Mirage IIIC it’s usually not too much of a threat, just a random chance of suddenly exploding without warning and that’s quite annoying

I don’t know about real life but my experience with the radar has been nothing but positive, strongest radar at 11.0

Currently because of the bugged g pull they’re just better than r27r, very strong missiles. The only problem with 11.3 is the f/a18a up tiers, aside from that youre essentially invulnerable if you play your cards right, other mig25s are your main threats

I haven’t been so lucky. It seems to lose lock at a sneeze and struggles to find targets (plus no look-down because no clutter filtering mode). The F-106’s radar has treated me better, and it’s from like 15 years earlier.

And also the earliest F-16 at 12.3 might present a challenge to it, especially if you’re trying to use IR missiles.

If they get into aim9ls range you’re dead, but t
How they gonna catch you, and in my experience mig25 has impressive look down perfomance

Well yeah. They’re not really gonna catch you, but if your positioning sucks you’ll be punished.

if youre close enough you can also lock with the IRST and change back to radar and it holds lock nicely, good little trick if youre getting close to someone and radar doesnt want to pick it up fast enough.

It’s 11.0. The only thing other than other fox bats is the 7F on the F4S/J

It actually has excellent lookdown capabilities as it employs analog pulse doppler filtering techniques. If you actually pointed your radar down once in a while you’d notice you can lock people on the deck from 10km alt no problem and maintain that lock solidly. The only issues it has are the slow scan pattern and the lack of ACM + you have to be level to lock a target (which affects a lot of planes).

For a non PD radar it’s exceptionally good.
