If you use it in tandem with flares it works to a degree. I’ve shot hundreds of Stingers at Ka-52s and the majority of the time the combo of DIRCM and flares make the missile go to space or the ground. Beyond that if you stay more than 2.5 miles away from Stingers they can’t really lock you. I’ve used the hydra trick to increase the range but it doesn’t work well enough to be reliable. Most of my stinger kills on DIRCM helis is the result of them getting way too close or exposing side/rear aspect.
Well yeah, I let the MAW do its job.
I don’t typically try to go closer than 4 miles, but stingers can be lock those Soviet helis further away sometimes. I don’t have any reasonable explanation for this, but I’ve locked and downed an Mi-24 at 3.89 mile range before. (Granted he was flying In, so whatever distance he could’ve achieved from launch to hit has to be considered)
I’ve gotten a couple 4 mile kills with stingers, but that was using the hydra trick to get them that far. I’ve never had a stinger lock beyond 3 miles by itself. On winter maps, I’ve had helicopters like the British Lynx get less than a mile away from me and I wasn’t able to lock them even side on.
Ngl I think the lynx runs way too cold, but again that’s because the heat values helis give off are all over the place in WT.
I’ve had a lynx on a desert map be less than 2 miles away and couldn’t lock, so I just fired the chain gun till he was dust
Oh look it intercepted missiles and killed the chopper but wait … it wasted half it’s ammo and now it will die because someone lauched multiple kh-38 or there is another mi28 ;) you lose back to the hangar
That’s if you eliminate them; I already tried launching all 16 missiles at once and none hit those LDIRCM helis.
Radar Missiles can hit helis only if they move forward or backwards.
Chaff + moving sideways is almost impossible to die to radar missiles in a heli.
That’s not quite how it works. In-game, if a heli with LDIRCM is literally hovering at 20km altitude, no missile can hit it unless it’s SACLOS. If it worked in real life like it does in the game, helis would be more useful than jets, and we wouldn’t see so many LDIRCM-equipped helis being shot down in Ukraine.
Oh boy, with Mi28NMs and the new Pantsir now paired together, I don’t even wanna see the state of 13.0 right now
I think Gaijin should start considering better SACLOS options for Western forces, dodging ARH missiles in helicopters is way too trivial and easy.
Are there actually any? Im pretty sure the current SACLOS imbalance is mainly because the west simply doesnt operate that stuff in the 21st century
Germany could get HFK-NV, it is a hypersonic missile faster than the new Pantsir’s missile, it should be compatible with the Roland family of SPAAs. Sadly, it never went anywhere, but it did exist and was trialed. Gaijin would have to conjure or make some fictional Roland SPAA for this missile.
Welp and theres the problem. Theres no world in which Gaijin will do that.
It would still be limited to only 4 missiles before (assuming very long) reload that would also need it’s own radar vehicle.
I don’t see you giving any better ideas lmao 😭
Because there might not be any ?
They could always return the Fictionwaffe programme and add a couple of things like they did before.
Or just add an air defense complex with both missile and gun batteries
Isn’t this missile IR guided?
It’s saclos guided which shifts over to IIR guidance when the missile comes in range to acquire the target by itself
