The M60-120S was announced, what to expect?

So per this -

The ammo should be fully compartmentalized - its not.

The GPS is a 240X4 FLIR aka the GPTTS upgraded to gen 2 as the gen 1 is not 240x4.

The engine is the recommended and slated to be the AVDS-1790 but can be other engines, yet does not specify a 750 hp engine as an option, turkey required a minimum of a 1000 hp engine for the bids so a 750 hp option is out of the question from that side.

The turret is protected with quote “the latest armor” possibly a package like the aussie AIM.

Yeah i know this,i used this article as the basis of this post lmao

You can clearly see that they mention everywhere the 1200hp engine variant with the Allison transmission

There’s a difference between “other options are also possible” and “this tank had the OG M60 powerplant”

I’m curious if that means it should have M1A2 -levels of turret protection and not M1A1 (1985) -levels of protection.

This source was dated to 2000 - 2001, correct? The most up-to-date M1 armour would’ve been that of the M1A2 SEP.

No, it’s the 120S. It’s always been marketed as such. The M60 2000 was a completely different upgrade program that included appliqué armor on the base M60A1 turret and the FCS from the M1A1.

This is the M60 2000

And here’s a picture of the M60 2000 in a GDLS brochure.

You wish you were right.

The M60-2000 only used a M1A1 turret. Not a M1A2 turret so it would not have the same armor as a M1A2 Sep. It was also only used as a test bed. Since it wasn’t ever gonna sell when they could just buy the M1A1 and because the M60 wasn’t in production therefore parts were becoming scarce.

Nothing personal, but 2 random websites aren’t really trustworthy sources lol.

You might want to read their comment again, they say “M1A2-level turret armor”.

The M1A1 HC has an M1A1 turret with very much equal armor levels to the M1A2. So Necron’s question about the armor isn’t a weird one.

But it is still a weird one, because he apparently forgot that the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty blocks the US to sell tanks with DU inserts.

That’s the reason why the Australian M1A1 AIM, despite it being closer to the M1A1 HA, doesn’t have DU inserts

The Australian M1A1 AIM still should have close protection levels to comparable US Abramses of the time. Iirc sources from the australian procurement or army were posted on the forum, saying that the DU armor was replaced with an export package that would offer comparable protection.

So it could be equipped with a turret that had that armor package. Of course I don’t know which armor package it was equipped with, I assume Necrons was also wondering this (could be wrong, so feel free to correct me on this bit).

The Australian bit is correct

The M60-2000 one?not so much.Sure,in 2000-2001 the US already had plenty of M1A2 and M1A2 SEP, but the NPT obviously excluded those last two. An armor package could be an option obviously, but it wasn’t offered by GDLS as a stock option, rather as an optional (just like the APU or the 2nd gen thermal).

So, considering that Gaijin is going with the prototype version (sigh),i don’t see the 120S having a M1A2-esque level of protection ever in this game

Thanks for the info!

And honestly, I think the last bit of your reply that I quoted is also better for the vehicle itself. With it’s current armor it can at least stay 10.0 (I feel that they might remove M829A1 though, but of course I don’t know for sure).

Giving it M1A2 levels turret armor would likely see it moved to 10.7 where it would instantly be pretty useless with it’s current 750 HP engine.

My thoughts on the future of this vehicle are not very good.

Right now,it is busted at 10.0,so i expect its BR to raise to 10.3/10.7. But it absolutely doesn’t have the mobility to keep up,so at 10.3 you’re basically a moving half-bunker asking to be shot.

If they MAYBE listened to reason and gave it KE-W and the 1200hp+Allison combo and put it at 10.3/10.7,it would’ve been balanced.

But no,they need to forcefully swallow the KVT/Wolfpack/Clickbait combo to other people, they aren’t satisfied with the absolute damage they’ve dealt to US win rates. And let’s not talk about the privilege treatment the Leo2A4 gets

So gaijin has ahistorically downgraded the 120S’s GPS from gen 2 to gen 1 on dev.

Ironic that they had it correct to begin with.

And yet they still think that the direct competitor of the Sabra III had a 1960s engine…

[DEV] 120S Gunner’s Primary Sight Incorrectly Downgraded // Gaijin.net // Issues

Bug report is up, but knowing gaijin they wont take a Raytheon brochure at face value so if someone has the direct link to that other 120S brochure I can add that in and that would be the two required sources.

More would always be appreciated.

M829A1, 56t w/ 750hp.

of all things the US tree needed it was not more glass cannons.

Wonder what its reload rate will be.

My god, even the History of the vehicle is poorly written,i know where they got those info and they decided to write a shorter paragraph only because they don’t want people to assume that this vehicle is not accurate to the IRL part.

Theoretically 5s like the other 120 abrams’

Same gun, same turret, and same crew complement (?)

I hope people talk about this in the comments, because this is just sad.

Its obvious that they are using the wrong information for this vehicle.

This is the M735 situation all over again.
