The M60-120S was announced, what to expect?

Cool, now that you just showed us that the 120S clearly had the 1200hp engine, can we make a comprehensive report with this proof without being nuked with the classical “nuh-uh”?

but its Janes

I don’t understand what you’re talking about.

We don’t have enough evidence yet, some sources mention that the prototype was equipped with the AVDS-1790 engine from the original M60, not the AVDS-1790-9.

The only source that mentions the AVDS-1790-9 is Janes, and it’s not even clear that the AVDS-1790-9 was actually fitted, we only have a cutted single pages. We need a full explanation or further evidence for this.

Right,i forgot that one of the most exhaustive and not-biased source of information on every tank ever is literally a no-go from Gaijin when you need to fix any tank in the game,no matter the nationality.

Wait a moment. We don’t have enough evidence of the 120S mounting the 1200hp engine other than Jane’s,and it’s understandable since it is a single source

But you also don’t have enough evidence of the 120S mounting the OG engine, and yet Gaijin decided to go for this option???

You understand that this is some sort of double standards, even considering that the 120S in game mounts a 2nd gen thermal, with the only source stating this being the GDLS’s brochure of this tank, the same brochure that states that this tank has the 1200hp engine and the same brochure that i believe was used by Jane’s to describe this tank.

Janes mentions that AVDS-1790-9 engine was not equipped in the prototype.

The fully functional prototype of the 120S retains the standard M60 series power pack consisting of a General Dynamics Land Systems AVDS-1790 series diesel engine developing 750 bhp.
It is envisioned that production vehicles would have the more powerful General Dynamics Land Systems AVDS-1790-9 diesel developing 1,200 hp. This would be coupled to the Allison X-1100-5 series automatic transmission and M1A1 final drives.

“and 240×4 or 480×2 second generation thermals, although the latter is not cleared for export in all countries at the present time”

2nd gen thermals were never cleared for export, thus they were never present, and yet this tank has them.

A modification that was easy to mount but was never mounted is present, but a modification that was easy to mount and was probably mounted is not present

This is what i was referring before when talking about “double standards”

I remember Gaijin reverting the thermals to 1st gen inside the dev server because “it was an error”,then reverted the change again without explaining the reason behind this change of mind. I guess it was because they saw that an underpowered and underprotected M1A1 was really bad at 10.0,and instead of going with a sort of an “M1 sidegrade”, they decided to give a gimmick without rightful evidences

Only 480x2 thermal cannot be exported, 240x4 thermal can be exported, and it was actually mounted on 120S.

The General Dynamics 120S is an upgrade of the M60 tank. The 120S is a unique product that integrates the M1A1 120 mm turret, equipped with a 240X4 Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR), onto a fully modernized M60 chassis.

Prototype 120S has a second generation thermal and 750hp engine, so it would be a historical issue if it was implemented as a first generation thermal.

Thanks for finally putting this to bed, at least for me. Still hope that we can get a finalized version of the 120S one day.

“… The powerpack has been replaced with an AVDS-1790-9 1200 hp diesel and a matching automatic transmission. The M120S uses M1A1-type final drives and M1A1-type driver’s controls.”

This website provides indepth history and lore to each variant.

Yeah but the website is also made for a role-playing game. Not saying that the research done by this individual is bad, just that I wouldn’t ever refer to this over Jane’s due to that fact.

Well, I’m not putting it out there as an definitive source. I’m trying to make it as where the 1200 HP AVDS-1790-9 is not completely out of the picture.

Book was published before 2005-06 Jane.

It should be noted that the 2005-2006 edition is not the first Jane’s book in which the 120S is mentioned. It was in 2002-2003 and possibly 2001-2002.

So this bit is odd to me as the final drive and it’s associated drive sprockets are visible on the prototype along with the engine bay redux, meaning the Allison X-1100-5 was present in the prototype, yet, said transmission would have been mated to the 1790-9 and not the base 1790.

This document is a gem, thank you very much

Let’s hope they’ll understand and change the tank’s power

They REALLY need to give this tank a little more respect and love. While it’s great offensively if you can actually get to a spot and sit the speed out delivers is beyond disappointing. It’s outright appalling considering it game after the release of the Object 292. A tank that has the best round in the game AND decent mobility. Then they give the US players the 120S which can barely reach it’s to speed going downhill. It’s brutal and renders it just about useless. Give her the engine anyone with a brain knows it was likely going to be in it and not this bs we have now.

Yeah i’m spading it right now and… man the mobility is really bad.

The lethality is top spot, once you have even the M829 you can lolpen anything even at 11.0,but you’re extremely slow and easy to pick as a target when the match starts

God I remember that pain. So we’ll in fact I can easily say that out of the entire US tech tree (Air, Ground and Helis) it was the most painful stock grind I’ve faced. You are forced to find a spot that’s close to spawn and just stay there. Don’t even try to be mobile because you will die and it won’t be armor that gets you it’s the speed.
