The Leopard 1 does not belong at 8.0, since it isnt stabilized and not very well armored for the Br, its unfair. The British got their Centurions and Vickers with stabilizers as low as 6.7 (Centurion.Mk 2 ). Its basically like the M48, No stab, powerfull gun but it has less armor and better mobility.
okay? the M60, t54 (1949/51), type 59, of-40, amx-30, and magachs arent
in terms of gameplay the leopard 1 performs no differently than a leopard 1a2 which is from 1973, the amx-30s also dont have fs heat or apds
as with everything in this game there are always tradeoffs, and what you perform well in will be based off of simply what you are accustomed to the playstyle of
Highly disagree.
Sure its rough to play the Leopard 1 into an uptier as most tanks start getting their stabilizers and laser rangefinders in some cases, however if the Leo 1 goes to 7.7 it won’t be long until it goes back up, because it has no right seeing 6.7 tanks. I would even say it has no right fighting 7.0 tanks… but hey :P
Its an extremely mobile tank, with no armor and a good punch, able to kill anything in its BR range up and down.
Not that I’ve checked your stats, but have you tried sniping with this thing instead of brawling?
Also, why are you comparing it with one of the “worst” nations overall?
Britain suffers as it is, gun stabilizers are like one of their only advantages in most scenarios. Most british vehicles can’t secure early positions and depend entirely on their stabilizer to push forward.
Bit off topic but I dropped a nuke yesterday with an OF-40 which is in most scenarios similar to the Leopard 1.
In practice it is quite similar. It has only HEAT as its shell (leopard also has APDS) and believe me the 20mm is almost useless due to HVAP shattering on a photon. Only useful against helicopters and sometimes open tops.
They both have an optical rangefinder and the leopard is more mobile. The lack of stabiliser at 8.0 is not that big of an issue. I know since france does not get a stabilised tank until 9.3 (mephisto does not count)
To be fair, that thing is abhorrently undertiered rn…
Imo the main issue with Leopard 1 is simply that it’s a 8.0 tank and all 8.0 tanks face the same issue of being consistently uptiered to BR’s where stabilizers become part of the standard-kit, which massively reduces the reaction times of tanks you face.
Ofc this can be played around but will usually require having a good crew to get decent aim speeds (non-expert Leopard 1 is quite iffy tbh)
I honestly think that the main issue for germany at the BR range (8.0-8.7) is just the lack of stabilized tanks.
You have Turm III F, which is a premium, VT1-2, which costs you >$700 and Gepard…
These are your only options if you want a stabilizer at <9.0 (and people wonder why gepard is spammed so much…)
Possible additions to resolve this issue in this gap for germany would be e.g. Leopard 1 A2 - essentially a Leopard 1 but with a stabilizer and depending on the configuration, the addon armour found on 1 A5 and 1A1A1.
(Note: Italian Leopard 1 A2 did not receive the stabilizer, wheras the german one did)
