The lackluster addition of BeNeLux

When they first announced the addition of BeNeLux to France I was quite excited. I believed we would see a lot of interesting vehicles and unique modifications of others, while France would simoultaneously benefit from it. However, after a substantial time of this subtree being added, I am very dissappointed. To clarify, I’ll speak from the ground perspective

Not only have the additions been scarce, they’ve also been entire C&P. There’s no interesting modifications, no unique emblems, not even vehicles that were symbolic to countries like Belgium or the Netherlands which would definitely help France in certain BRs. What I expected were vehicles like the PRAT, YPR-765 PRI/AIFV-B-C25, Leopard 1-V, PRTL, Scorpion, Scimitar, Leopard 1BE… not to mention the WW2 vehicles! But we only received 3-4 Dutch Leopard 2s and a Belgian M44, and that’s all.

It’s really frustrating to see how they abandon their own projects. The addition of BeNeLux has been quite lacking in general, and it feels very abandoned currently, wasted potential.

While the air subtree (just a quick word since it’s not this post’s subject) is massively underwhelming with just the one unique airframe and barely any new additions since release, the ground subtree might as well not even exist and no one would notice.

I really don’t get it, are the M44 and Leopards just quick and easy additions before something more substantial comes? That’d be okay, but seen what happened until now even that seems naively optimistic.

It’s not even like there’s no unique options, the T.13s or the DAF M39 could bring some speed to the painfully sluggish French rank I, the CATI 90 could be an actually unique rank III tank destroyer, the YPR is an iconic IFV that France really could use, Belgian prototypes like the Cobras wonderfully fit French playstyle, the Piranha could bring a stabilised gun at ~8.7, etc

It’s been almost a year now and still basically nothing unique, it’s really a huge letdown

Gaijin really needs to sort this out, Hungary suffers a similar problem as well. Seriously though, so much low tier aircraft neglected for the quick top tier additions.

There is no time for me to mourn BeNeLux because currently I need to pray for Thailand…

What feels like a spit to the face is that models are half baked. Extreme cases like the Belgian M44 using French crews and lines, or the Dutch CV90 having English lines long after it’s addition.

They just straight up release unfinished content and it somehow works for them.

when south africa is the only decent subtree addition you know things are bad.

scimitar blows ass and scorpion would only really have HESH so we arent missing out.

Tbf the Scorpion could be a decent addition to 6.3 or 6.7. That family of vehicles (Scimitar, Scorpion, Striker…) is legendary for Belgium, and it’s a shame we don’t have it complete even in the UK.

6.3 would be far too high for the thing (if we are talking about the 76mm scorpion) as from actual firing tests the HESH shell has about 110mm of penetration (by converting it to war thunder specs). id say its most balanced spot would be 5.3. Bareley powerful enough to deal with a tiger and so lightly armoured everything will kill it fast. its only merit will be top end speed (and that’s completely gimped for CVRT tanks in game)

I like the unique additions that are 2A5NL, 2A6NL, F-16A, F-16AM, Gladiator Mk1, Mirage 5BA, and the Meteor with range extension.

I’m sure Gaijin’s working on more.
Claiming it’s abandoned would just be blatant lying as they don’t abandon projects.

Well, the BeNeLux ground forces tech tree hasn’t even been fully released yet and has just been small additions so far. Which i have split opinions on since it will have been about a year by the time the next major update releases, which means that it’s more likely we would receive more unique additions but the wait time being very long for the BeNeLux ground forces subtree also is pretty annoying.

Atleast i hope that they have been working on the BeNeLux ground forces subtree all this time.

The issues with the BeNeLux sub-tree is part of the larger issue of sub-trees as a whole.

Between the space issues (the 5-line limit) and the fact their usually there to buff or nerf(in the case of ZA) it’s host tree with as little effort as possible.

It doesn’t help the Gaijin is inconsistent with its copy and paste. As they’d give nations a vehicle they had like 10 of, yet they can’t get the primary service vehicle that they had like 100+ of. Not to mention that Gaijin very rarely adds domestic/unique vehicles to sub-trees.

So without a major sub-tree rework I consider they system a failure.

Also the lack of WW2 stuff does disappoint me as well, as I look forward to the Dutch Ram IIs(their the only nation to operate the OQF 75mm ones making theirs some what unique)

@StormRyder13 How is adding Desert Warrior and ZA-35 little effort?
Most vehicles in all sub trees are unique vehicles.
Hungarian air is the only outlier.

It would have been okay if they just added French stuff before adding BeNeLux, then I wouldn’t have expected a lot of additions

The Leopards are only “unique” to you on a technicality, the visual changes are extremely minor and nothing affects gameplay compared to German Leos, the F-16AM is somewhat unique but not via homegrown means, the only unique thing about the Gladiator is its guns- oh wait, they copy-pasted the same guns anyway, too bad- , the Mirage is cool, the Meteor isn’t really unique but i can’t ask for anything else at the BR.

Yeah sure… hopefully they can double the amount of native vehicles by adding 1 (one) additional vehicle, if that’s not too much to ask

If you’re classing copy-paste on the lines of not changing gameplay, your argument implies Leclerc and M1A1 are copy-paste since the gameplay between the two don’t change. Similar armor, rounds, and mobility.

The Gladiator uses different props to other later gladiators.

Do you even read yourself? “Leclerc and M1A1 are copy-paste since […] similar armor, rounds and mobility” Do you know “similar” doesn’t mean identical? The Leopards are nigh copy-paste because they don’t bring anything new. They are Leopards, plain and simple.

Same with the Gladiator. Woohoo 2 blades instead of 3 (like the Swedish one). Zero difference in stats whatsoever.

Mate, South Africa hasn’t been touched since Ixwa, (copy paste Grippen with renamed Derbys don’t count). Hungary got what? The only new thing that is actually Hungarian is just a Puma.
Thailand is just copy-paste America, which compliments copy-paste America Japan very well.

Gaijin already forgot about Benelux, and if and when they do remember them, it’s literally a copy-paste of another thing: Dutch Leopards, Dutch Apache, Dutch Eurocopter, Belgian F-16s, Belgian F-104s, and the list goes on and on. And the only indigenous post-war vehicle? It’s a squadron.

Similar in this case means within a couple percentage points. Like there’s more difference in mobility from 2A7V and 2A4 than M1A1 to Leclerc.

BeNeLux is supposed to fill gaps- not to be an independent tech tree smashed into another.
