The Ki-102 Otsu

Here is the Ki-102 handling manual:

Too bad it’s missing 9 Pages. Book 3 is not included about the bombs and guns.
But in the beginning it says that the Otsu carried either 1x500kg, 1x250kg, 2x100kg or 4x50kg bombs.

The HEF shell specification for Ho-401 has been fixed based on the bug report you submitted, but oddly enough it is not mentioned in the patch notes and the bug report comments have not been updated. The pilots of the Ki-102 Otsu would have welcomed a buff to the HEF shell more than the addition of practice shells.

That’s quite good, I wasn’t aware of the HE buff until you pointed it out.

Now that we have the practice shell, it’s time for bombs! :D

And a completely new damage model. That plane gets annihilated by 7.7mms…

Was that mentioned in the patch notes, that it now shows the armor penetration by ‘explosive action’ in the stat card? Which is a pretty nice addition in general.

I believe some of the armor is missing, but I would have to double-check to be sure

Even if it had no armour, there would be no explanation for it being so easily taken out.

I know it’s not exactly the same pylon, nor in the same position, but the addition of bombs to the Ki-45 gives me hope.

Ki-102 Otsu

Source: Don’t let 1.87 and Rank VII distract you from the fact that Japan’s only attacker(Ki-102) is missing its bombs, engine armour and auto-entinguishers, and is mislabeled as otsu instead of ko. : r/Warthunder

Also what’s interesting to me is that the pylons for the Ki-102 otsu bombs closely resemble the fuel tank pylons on the Ki-67, at least as shown in this model. Perhaps the Ki-67 really could carry bombs on the fuel pylons

Mounting bombs in place of droptank only requires right size shacles. Almost always this was done, though Japan was exception due to their long range needs. Sometimes it might have been entirely possible with what they already had, but wasn’t recorded anywhere as it wasn’t used. One example are very late Zeros mounting 500kg with a droptank shackle.

There was a plan for Ki 67 for wing-mounted pylons. That way, it would be able to carry 3x 500 kg, or 5x 250 kg bombs. I don’t think it was ever implemented, tho.

Apparently it was done, but I haven’t seen any pictures

In September 1944, the Army requested Mitsubishi to modify the Ki-67 to allow the suspension of 250 kg or 500 kg bombs under its wings. The design and prototype of this external rack were carried out. The long-range variant of the Ki-67 was equipped with drop tanks on this external rack.

Underwing Suspension System
Initially, two 250 kg bombs will be equipped under the wings, and as soon as possible, two 500 kg bombs will be equipped.

I think it might be a good idea to add this experimental external rack to the Ki-67-I Otsu. In the game, there are very few differences between Ko and Otsu apart from the tail gun.

Also I would like to notice that it could take 800kg bomb also.
In US documents about Ke-Go is said that Ki-67 took 2 of this bombs. But because of sizes it looks like that it can’t be used in bomb bay but could easily be used on underwing bomb rack

That would be an excellent idea. The Ki 67 suffers from having an awful bomb load for its battle rating. The pylons would help a lot.

Is the assumption that the Ko could only carry 250 kg correct, and the Otsu up to 500 kg?

That being said, I wouldn’t mind making a thread for the Ki-67, there are other issues like the nose and rear turrets not working properly. Like my message if I should

Ho-203 and Ho-204 HE rounds now have the correct weight and muzzle velocity. Unfortunately HE filler weight and type was left. Also there shouldn’t be a tracer at all?

@KillaKiwi would you like to report these?

The secondary sources below give the same 45g filler, but I’m not sure what type it should be in game.

I’m curious if the armor will match up, but it’s less of a priority than the bombs tbh

I did the tracer.

Not sure what I can do about the 45g filler.

The 37mm HEFI shell with the Type 4 Air Collum Fuze seems to be filled primarely with incendiary filler, which is probably the reason for increase in filler weight.
