You proved their post correct.
Where do you see “13” in that screenshot?
Well, it’s “20” on paper, but in-practice it’s ~13km in testing.
Either way it’s the same for all of them cause all of them are copy-paste AGM-65D stats.
But how did he posting the paper value prove them correct?
Cause his post’s claim was they’re all the same range against tanks, not the ground.
They didn’t say in-practise, they said “capped” , as in; on paper and can never lock on longer ranges than that.
Edit:
Gotcha
what it is for 65B
No, he’s correct. LOAL is in-game, its just in a limited manner.
This video does a decent job portraying the mechanic:
I don’t see any LOAL being shown in that video? at what timestamp does it happen?
Starting around the 2min mark, he gets a “point” lock. A point lock isnt a lock on a vehicle, its a lock on the ground at which point you can fire the missile.
The missile will fly towards that point lock until it finds a suitable target to track.
At 4:43 he gets a “track” lock, which is a vehicle track which can actually follow a moving target.
Its not super obvious in the video, cuz he’s not firing at moving targets in it, but he does explain it in the captions.
The Kh-38MT can do the same thing in-game.
Getting a point vs track lock in the pod view just means that the missile hasn’t been fired yet.
I can see no proof of LOAL in that video other than verbal claims (i don’t even think they say it in the captions?). It might be the case that there is some sort of LOAL in the game (by mistake or design doesn’t matter) but i have not yet seen it and the video doesn’t show it.
No, thats not at all what it means.
As can be seen below, a POINT lock cannot follow a moving target (unless the moving target ends up within the seekers FoV when its within TRACK range)
A TRACK lock on the other hand can follow a moving target, because the seeker is already hooked on the vehicle, instead of looking for a target while in flight.
i have used with some missiles idk how it works but they have a relock time or something and even in the chart it talks about relock time, idk if it need to be applied directly to an spaa but i have done it some times and even actively tested this in custom matches some missiles like PARS 3LR have only 3 seconds of relock time before they just start departing ways to meet the ground
yeah this is what i mean with that
this is why I dont get when people say FnF Brimstones would be OP because of LOAL in mode 3 where you just shut gun them onto the battlefield sure, but in mode 2 it works literally like that where you designate a target, the btimstone flies under IOG and then starts searching for a target when its with in range the same as point lock and IR just it would do it from a closer distance so it would probably miss more
there is a video out there of someone lobbing a GBU-8 from like 23km away near one of the spawns on vietnam and it begins tracking a tank leaving spawn at about 5km
yeah normally what i do with such guided weapons, it is absolutely possible specially with higher caliber agm’s like AGM 65 and KH 38 since they have much higher re lock time than stuff like PARS 3LR and Spike ER2, its honestly a pretty useful strat specially with some spaa’s like pantsirs or stuff that have really good radars altough i normally fire about 3 against pantsirs to use the first 2 as decoys
Again, nothing conclusive there, it might be exactly what you say, but no definitive proof that those aren’t just ground locks on a stationary target.
You are misunderstanding me, the fact that you see either of those two options in the hud (which i do know what they mean) means that the missile han’t been fired at the point of still seeing those in the hud.
LOAL means changing from point to track during mid flight of the missile.
I cannot see that in the videos as they are all on stationary targets so point and track locks will behave the same.
Yes, but to relock doesn’t there have to have been a lock to begin with to the RE-acquire?
Again, i want to be clear that i am fully prepared to be wrong about this, i just have not seen anything proving LOAL’s existence yet. (i would honestly love to be wrong because that would open so many new doors for CAS play for me :P )
Edit:
Going of topic now though, if continued discussion is to be had you can PM me if you want.
