The Kh-38MT may not actually exist

Good one.

Did this guy just apply GRB top tier gameplay loop (dogshit) to Air gameplay loop (peak, tied with naval)?

most people run the Su35SM3, Su34 and Su30SM with no targetting pod as the first 2 dont have thermals and the last one has only gen 1, so the MT has far superior thermals and zoom to the pods

The T220 and Kh-38 have the same resolution
But the pod has better zoom and much better angles

Somehow the same Kh-38MT has ±60 deg angular limit on the Su-34 but ±30 deg on the Su-30SM … Quality game …

Perhaps intentional to make the TGP seem more useful …

wild considering its meant to be only gen 1 thermals I have been told it also just means you can only carry 5 and why sacrifices a free kill

Okay I went looking through some of my sources again and made some interesting discoveries.

Idk where that 780x780 resolution comes from though, but according to weapon delivery manuals, the ATA gate size is 45x45, for the G. and 25x25, for the D, pixels x lines in size. However you can’t really use this at all to figure out the total resolution. But with this it’s likely that the Mav total resolution does sit in the couple hundred pixel x lines resolution yes. But if you have a source for that 780x780 resolution, please share. All I can find is literal one unsourced reddit comment, which obviously won’t fly.

Now for zoom. In game it has a 30° to 15° FoV, resulting in the bad zoom. But I have found in the AV-8B tacman that this is incorrect, as well in an AF magazine (march 1983) by a factor of 10. Convenient. Every weapon delivery manual I have states 30-15° in a copy pasted datasheet essentially, it’s likely just one print error that crept its way into all of these (literally all text is also copy pasted, word for word everything is the same for decades). Real FoV is 3.0 and 1.5°, so they probably forgot a decimal point. These values also make a LOT more sense. A large FoV of 30-15° is basically unheard of really for a seeker.

For WT this means that zoom will be 24.6-49.1x. AV-8B tacman however has hard numbers of 8-16x magnification, but using that document is kinda eh right now, but right now it’s the only primary source confirming the FoV otherwise. But if I find anther source this means I can go on to make a bug report on FoV/zoom and another (unrelated) for mav rocket engine performance (permission to use source is pending).

Mentions like these (in the same magazine) make sense too then:

Anyways this should also shed some light on the optical zoom levels of the Kh-38MT that people seem to complain about. These zoom levels are based on real zoom levels of the Kh-29T, so it’s not too crazy to believe the Kh-38MT would have something similar.

Also that suggests that it shouldn’t have the visible light channel like it does now …

Correct, but that guess to be a game limitation. You can not have a NVD/IR without a normal sight as of now. It impacts any and all weapons like that.

It is a game limitation presently yes.

its almost like they havent updated EN sight in over 10 years…

adobe scan explains some of it but it does not in any way ensure that it is not an edited image

Photoshopping a built missile on a plane instead of just mounting it makes no sense.

I just find it odd that it emerged out of nowhere from Chinese social media, not the most trustworthy source if you ask me, there is also all the weird artifacts around the missile and the weird bent shape, it just does not still confidence in me.

Wasn’t a Chinese consultant once banned from Gaijin for making up sources? Or some drama like that, I don’t really remember.

Either way, it’s the best we got, but a shotty source at that.

I think it may have been mentioned in one of the excerpts that @Gunjob had, as it is an excerpt from one of the Harrier manuals, of which I’ve lost the link(s) to.

Which currently there is basically no reason to take, and would reduce the magazine depth for the missile if it was needed, at least for the worst offender, Su-30SM

Don’t have anything on the resolution, this is the weapon description page from the Harrier GR7 manual;

Isn’t there a page that refences the scene being split into eight grey + B/W levels (Histogram normalization) similar to the functional description in the below excerpt 3.3.1.16?

This excerpt covers the AXX-1 TCS, not AGM-65

Maybe this section is what you’re looking for;

Spoiler

It’s certainly what I am remembering

Could you please post the rest of the intervening pages for the Maverick section.

I think what I may have been thinking of was the F-16C/J manual.
