Hello, I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions about the future of the game. What do you think will or may happen to War Thunder in the next 5 years.
Each update gets increasingly more buggy and broken, we are seeing now the beginning of extended periods of time where the game does not function as intended for a good while after an update.
If gaijin do not create a new engine or do a complete overhaul of the Dagor engine soon we will be in a situation where the game will not work, updates will take longer and so will fixing the bugs that come with them
If this is fixed then I can see war thunder surviving for a good few years and if it remains working for many years the last vehicle is added
If not then I cannot see this game lasting into the years as it will be unplayable
Prob A C T U A L L Y unplayable without premium
Gaijin’s economic model is the common one for MPOG’s - they rely on adding more and more “new” content for a lot of their income.
With fantasy games this is fine - you can make whatever you want.
But supposedly “historical” games have a limited amount of actual “historical” content they can add - which leads to more and more really marginal stuff being added - equipment for which actual performance stats and design data is not available.
Gaijin is well into that phase IMO - we are getting “new vehicles” (land, sea, and air) that are marginal changes to existing ones, “new” vehicles in tech tress that are just C&P from other trees, vehicles that only 1 was ever made of (or none in some cases), ettc.
There is certainly a lot of such content that can be added - there are plenty of cold war planes that haven’t been covered yet, and plenty more sub-marks of T-72’s to go…
But it is a terminal phase IMO - even if it is going to be going on for a long time.
The longer term “answer” is improved game-play - but no sign of that yet.
They should honestly drop maybe one update from the year (extends life span) and focus on making the engine and game more stable
There’s no money in that.
I think the game will start stagnating FAST within 2-3 years.
Hopefully, we start getting new gamemodes and better gameplay, but that alone won’t hook most people who only play the game for the grind and don’t have much fun with it.
Gaijin is already diverting some of their focus/resources into new projects and then we will see it slowly ditching warthunder support.
Yes there is
- they wont be on a shitty engine the game will work and future games are easier to make and better
- extending life means extending money income
Yes, I knew you’d come back with a reply like that. Except, that’s not how they think at all. They want money now.
Now.
I know but it still counters your argument in that there is no money in it, there is just gaijin are not chasing it that way and are instead mr krabs
Considering we had 5th gens leaked for the December update (Although Smin denied that), I fully expect Gaijin to run out of modern tanks/planes to add by 2027. Once that happens, they will either be forced to improve gameplay, or pivot towards older vehicles.
As far as Gaijin is concerned, there is no money in it. You haven’t countered anything.
Tell the shareholders they’ll have to wait even longer for their returns. The best way to make money for them afaik is to load up the game with large consistent content updates and heavily monetize it before wringing it all out for good once it becomes unprofitable/very difficult to add new content and make game work
Forced? Gaijin won’t be forced into anything that doesn’t make profit.
Warthunder is about to start losing profit margin fast in a few years after people get their 5th gen jets, latest experimental mbts and whatnot.
They have other projects/games and they will invest more resources in those and slowly abandon Warthunder while milking the playerbase as much as possible with fantasy vehicles and ridiculous skins because those are easy to implement with just a little dev work.
I also thought about that. Instead of adding new vehicles each update non stop, give it a break and fix the game, add new game modes, features, listen to the community… but yeah, there’s no money there.
Future of WT:
- Proper PvE and PvPvE for tanks
- TO mode
- More mechanics for different type of vehicles, as we are running out of modern designs (leaked KF51 or F35), like IFV deploying infantry etc
- New tech trees, combining smaller countries
- PT-91 TWARDY and K2 for maximum POLISH experience
Based on the last patch:
Future of Warthunder - break existing game modes and make them practically unplayable without any marks or notes in the changelog even approaching an explanation for why it happened.
We had zero graphics updates that should affect aircraft rendering.
Yet somehow they neutred non-radar ASB overnight.
