The first CBT is overall beyond my expectation

Good things I found are:

  1. Graphic and sound effects are good IMO.
  2. The gameplay is rather realistic although the movements feel heavy inertia - which I’m generally fine with as long as it is justifiable as being realistic.
  3. TTK is good, it’s not like the other FPS games that you have to fight Rambos and wolverines, again applaud for being realistic.
  4. Guns’ gameplay is smooth and enjoyable.
  5. Most things feel realistic (I only tried realistic mode not arcade one)
  • Note that although I played some FPS games before but I’m not a huge fan of shooter games.

Things still need improvements/expectations:

  1. Map/objectives are too simple, this is also an issue for WT’s GRB/ARB I IMO.
  2. Too many bots - probably due to the fact that we are still in CBT and only limited No. of players exist?
  3. The soldier’s class and roles are not very clear to me - I only had two games before I had to jump off, still trying to figure out how different gear setups work. I would also suggest adding a role of commander or squad leader similar to BFs.
  4. How about multiplayers vehicles? This would make some of the twin-seats jets/helis extra functional and fun to play.
  5. I only found helis which becomes useable after gaining certain amount of SP, will jets be added in the future too? Given the last two games I had the helis are overwhelmingly powerful (maybe not a universal case) but I still feel that there is a lack of anti-air/anti-drone capacity. Will SPAA be added as well?

I hope they add multiplayer vehicles, I remember playing an old roblox game with that and me and my friends had a lot of fun, it was called mtc or sumn, hope they add it.

It might just be me but, body shots (if Gaijin ever bothers to model hitboxes for specific areas of the human body) shouldn’t be a one-tap through armour (heavy or otherwise).

The same could be said for RPGs and the like (e.g., anti-tank mines, if there are any) one-tapping tanks. I’m not saying make them indestructible, but something like a T-90 or Abrams should be able to tank at least 1-2 of those. Light armoured vehicles like the Bradley likewise could be made to tank at least 1 RPG shot–they’re not as robust as tanks but they’re not made of paper either.

Other than that… my general observations based on CC streams:

  • Optimisation will need to be a big thing for this to be widely popular and not just a “play for a couple days until hype dies down” thing. It’s cool we will soon have access to everything you could possibly need in a game in War Thunder, so I hope the devs take this as one of the higher priorities in the development of this mode.

  • Graphics, SOUND DESIGN is 10000/10. Hats off to the team for that specifically. I will enjoy (or be kept awake) by the incoming sounds of artillery. Don’t worry, this is a good thing.

  • People were hiding in buildings the entire time shooting at whatever moves on the outside. Valid tactic, until (or if?) CAS gets involved. Then you might as well stop hiding and be gunned down or get a sneaky, almost silent surprise from a FPV drone.

I for one can’t wait for my turn to try it myself. There’s a few kinks here and there to work out, but this game IMO is headed towards an arcady blend between Arma/Squad and Battlefield with the sophistication and attention to detail of military vehicles (at least, to a non full fidelity standard) in War Thunder. Guaranteed to get a few more free to play downloads by the thousands, at least.

Keep up the good work Dev Team! Merry Christmas.

its basically the modern warfare april fools from Enlisted isnt it?

it’s much better

Unfortunately it seems like Gaijin is going to make the War Thunder infantry similar to Enlisted. In Enlisted, you get to control a squad and other soldiers in your squad are AI bots. I hope they remove this from War Thunder and make it just like regular War Thunder, all players be controlled by humans.

Never played enlist but it sounds kinda reasonable if its WWII battle condition. And yes for modern setup they may want to limit the infantry units to ~ 20 players plus limited vehicles each side on close range maps and only add bots if they plan to have larger battlefield maps.

I only watched s few minutes of the stream, where someone played m249 gunner:

  • jumped from heights with no issue
  • fired m249 standing with amazing accuracy (very little recoil)
  • reloaded m249 while sprinting

I think it is pretty arcade.
