They have to give up a much more powerful tactic, bvr just to use aim9m yet f14 should get it and remain at the same br? sure they have better fm, but that doesn’t really make up for the lack of bvr.

Brother what? Not only is the Aim-54 one of the worst ARH’s, it’s also not even close to the best to BVR. And they don’t have to “give up BVR” to have Aim-9Ms, they’re just apart of their kit. For example, the F-15A at 13.0 has Aim-7Ms and Aim-9Ms. Aim-7s can and have been good BVR weapons.

If you ACTUALLY read what I typed, you would see I said out of the F-16s, it has the best flight model of the F-16s, which is a fact not up for debate.

he iraf never even used the r73 just like it never used the r27. Both of the experiments failed. The f14b can receive aim9m but its just going to drive the br up as previously stated, same for the f14a early.

1. The IRIAF did use the R-73, and it was successfully integrated, unlike the R-27R1. They didn’t add them to the tomcat because not only was it better suited to the Mig-29s with HMD they have (and where they come standard), but also because the F-14s are used as AWACs and aren’t normally getting close enough to use R-73s.

AV8b+, fa.2, j8f, mirage 4k, belgian f16a, ja37di. The gripen would be on the list but the 600+cm

Ignoring that Gripen which is wild to me, the AV8B+ and FA.2 both have Aim-120s and tons of survivability. Great acceleration, great avionics, etc… Sure, it’s subsonic, and yes, it’s definitely not the best platform, but they’re still better than the F-14B with Aim-54Cs and bottom-of-the-line survivability, mid-acceleration, mid-avionics, and overall worse kit while being supersonic.
The J-8F is reasonably fast and has PL-12s. The Mirage 4000 has a good amount of countermeasures, 8 Magic 2s, and is very fast with a great gun/maneuverability too. The Belgian F-16A has the best F-16 FM, good countermeasure count, Aim-9Ms, and of course, is very fast with great avionics. The JA37Di has Aim-120As, lots of countermeasures, and is decently fast, however it’s lacking in flight performance and avionics.

The aim54 wasn’t what i was refering to i was refering to the aim7m as well as the aim54. Aim54 isn’t good but it isn’t bad either. Its just mid. aim7m is perfectly usable. Didn’t prove anything.

The f16 is one of the worst planes at the br. It doesn’t have enough countermeasures. Once again didn’t disprove anything i said.

Those planes are all worse than the f14 in some way or another. Once again didn’t prove anything.

The f14 is faster than anything with a fox 3 at 13.0 by a fair margin. the only things that come close is the f4f ice and tornado f.3 late. The harriers are slower which limits its aim120 usage to less than sparrow range off of the f14b. The J8f doesn’t even have tws making its 2x pl12’s far more difficult to use also its slower and has a worse fm all around. Mirage 4k, belgian f16a, have to give up pretty much all bvr weaponry just to take a lot of short range fox 2 making you quite vulnerable to anyone doing ANY kind of bvr. The ja37di gets a worse rwr, worse fm, and less cm. In fact the f14b can carry more cm than anything else at 13.0 besides Gripen and its only by x20 cm.

I’ve already considered the pros/cons of every aircraft. The F-14B is in the bottom 20-30% of aircraft at 13.0. Giving it 9Ms does nothing but put it on an even playing field as I showed above with how many aircraft get 9M equivalents.

Saying “But muh BVR” everytime the F-14 is brought up is disingenious. The AIM-54 does not work nearly as well as what would be needed to consider this a pro. The F-14 does not gain some huge advantage by using the AIM-54, it simply uses up pylons that should have been used for other missiles.

I guess the aim7m is a myth. It only has aim54. Yes, i do want decompression. Which is really the only issue the f14b faces. Against anything that ISN’T a eurofighter or rafale, its fine.
