How to tell you know nothing about either vehicles. They actually play very differently.
I know for me (as a ground player), these FOMO event vehicles give me motivation needed for me to play the less popular air modes. I need a bit of FOMO to give me the motivation to get in that cockpit. The last few jets have been such duds I didn’t even bother. I’m just happy I’ve been given something worth grinding.
I get your point, but I must respectfully disagree. This plane gives me the excuse to grind the US Air Tree to 10.0 while I grind out this plane during the event. I might even use this plane to skip Rank V, Rank VI and some early Rank VII (since you can research vehicles that are at most rank above and below your plane), may even slap a Talisman on it to make that happen depending on how much I enjoy the aircraft itself.
guys, what about the f102, the f106 is successor of this plane, also, gaijin have a tendency to add limited-use vehicles, or virtual ones as a premium, also, it isnt widely used in conflicts so f106 being an event vehicle is reasonable and sometimes lucky, f102 may be a tech tree one since it actually have a role inthe vietnam war, moreover, f102 has foreign users (1974 cyprus conflict, both greece and turkey used f102)
IMO the F-106 with its gimicky missiles makes perfect sense as an event vehicle. I’m just happy to get it at all since they previously said they wouldn’t add the AIM-4 at all…

and the sheer abundance of US Airframes is the most probable reason why the F-106 was added as an event vehicle
although in a different world, where the TTs were still at Sabre age I would’ve absolutely added it to the TT along with an F-104 before Phantoms and later came to be

America is the one TT in game where id say there’s enough Variety

The missiles mounted on this F-102 are from the Hughes “Falcon” family of air-to-air missiles. In the weapons bay are AIM-4A radar guided missiles in the forward positions and AIM-4D infra-red guided missiles in the rear position. On the bottom center rail is an AIM-26A, a kiloton range nuclear warhead. Additional armament consists of 24 2.75-inch folding-fin unguided “Mighty Mouse” rockets, two in each of 12 tubes located inside the weapons bay doors. These rockets are partially visible at the forward ends of the doors. The weapons bays on both sides normally open together. To show both the open and closed configuration in this display, only the right side is fully open to firing position.
