I will say if it ends up and stays at 9.3 it will be really fun to run down F-104s with
I hope it gets the flares that some of the f106 drones used (would be more historical than the flares on the f5c)
yes but it has .78 TWR combat load and high accelration from its low drag and J75-P-17 making around 24,000LBF of thrust mirage 3C amazing turn but dumps it do to weak engine so it wont turn aswell but will energy fight far better than 3C
Mirage-IIIC .55 combat load TWR
F106A .78 combat load TWR
if its good they will move it up and probably add flares
slippery plane is what its described as, not the best turn fighter but it has a high a decent TWR and it had low drag meaning it could pick speed back up with its .78 TWR which is lower than F4 but F4 is way draggier than 106
F106A could pull 6.5-7.0 Gs irl acounting for multiplier of 1.5 =10.5 g
and the F106 with no gun pod or missiles and min fuel will have TWR of .92
but full combat load is .78TWR
though i do agree event vehicles should only be unique prototypes instead of combat vehicles
Good question, to be honest, iirc the actual production F-106C was intended to be able to use the AIM-26C on top of the GAR-3/GAR-4. I’ve also seen one reference to the YF-106C being designed to carry a GAR-9, but outside of one mention, I haven’t seen anything else
Sooo
You are telling that
F-106 is one of the best event vehicles, but the way of adding it is awful
Because F-106 deserves to be treated better, as being in the tech tree instead of being an event vehicle.
Right?
turns out because of the HMD, this is a one off testbed, leaving M61 equipped F-106 as still available for tech tree
That makes sense, afaik every other existing or planned AN/ASG-18 platform (XF-108, that one B-58, YF-12) carried GAR-9
gaijin is the most unconsistant when they decide which planes get flares (like again the f5c, irl no f5c ever got flares bc the variant in game is different to the chinese version that had the flares)
Hopes so.
Century series is cool to see, and I need to see more of them.
…even though they aren’t coming from Albion. :P
However, there is no mention on neither the forum nor website post of this being a testbed aircraft. It seems that Gaijin is simply modeling the aircraft with tested features rather than actually explicitly adding it as the testbed itself.
thats also a pretty good point.
@Smin1080p_WT are we getting the testbed or a F-106 that just happens to have the features that were tested?
Mostly same team with 104 btw
Anyone remember when they announced the BMD-4 as an event vehicle and promised to add one to the tech tree later? I sure do love that they lied and I had to buy what I think is one of the cooler tanks out there (even if it is basically just an overpriced BMP-3)
Does at least leave room for a version to pop up without said features or even just the Interceptor version
Just wanted to say there’s no guarantee it will do a specific G ingame. The 1.5G thing is for the STRUCTURAL limit, not “we always make it pull 1.5X the G limit”. It would RIP above 10.5Gs, but depending on the way they model the fm it might only do 9Gs for example. Also even in real life I’m 99 percent certain it can go over that 7Gs and I would be willing to bet that some pilots accidentally did (they just got trashed by the maintenance guys after).
That’s a pretty common misconception that I see, is people conflating the 1.5X structural limit thing with the instantaneous pull
This si my same opinion, i know i will grind thsi even so i wont miss this amazing sircraft ive waited for years, but whst about new players? This aircraft is too iconic and important to be relegated to an event
