The extremely unfair Ash River map

I have never enountered such an unfair battle map. I used to think that maps like Ardennes and Hürtgen Forest were already quite unfair, but even on those maps, the disadvantaged side could still relatively conveniently reach positions that are easily suppressed to counter the enemy’s advances—until I encountered this M551 in this battle.

As shown in the tactical map in the bottom-right corner of the screenshot, in this Conquest match on Ash River, Gaijin blocked off the high ground on the right side for players on that team, preventing all right-side players from using that high ground to gain a combat advantage. However, for the left-side players, Gaijin did not do the same—they merely placed a restricted zone on the path leading to the left high ground. This allows certain vehicles with good mobility (and the M551 isn’t even among the best in that regard) to easily cross the restricted zone before the forced return timer expires, and then secure a massive combat advantage from their side’s high ground.

Just look at these screenshots. From that high ground, they can overlook the entire combat area with excellent cover. Meanwhile, the other side, as soon as they leave their spawn, can be spotted and engaged, and for almost the entire match, it is practically impossible to reach that position from the ground to counter them. They can only engage in long-range duels on exposed roads, with no cover. Moreover, many players would never expect to be attacked from that position in the first place—after all, our high ground is blocked off, so there’s no reason for the enemy to attack from their corresponding position, right? By the time they realize how wrong they are, the players on the high ground have already reaped enormous benefits.

For the sake of everyone’s gameplay experience, Gaijin, please place a restricted zone on the left high ground as well. It’s simple. Please, soon.

just channel the rock opening to only see over the cap point thats usually in G4 and that spot is fixed

In the normal Domination or Battle modes, the high ground on both sides can be used normally—anyone can fight from their respective high ground, and that doesn’t cause much of an issue. However, it is only in the Conquest mode that only one side’s high ground is blocked off by a restricted zone, which creates the unfairness. Reworking the map just for one mode would undoubtedly be too much work, but placing a larger restricted zone on the map would obviously be more convenient and would not affect the other two modes.

Or a more defined red-line area that if you even go to cross it you immediately explode, but it’s shown more on the map for people to see ‘Don’t go through here’.

More redzone in that area overall could fix it entirely though. It is silly that you can still get up on that side compared to the other.

You begin to think that this is all done deliberately in order to hand advantages to one side and hinder the other. I actually think that things are rigged and all the so called calculations done allegedly by the server are a much more simpler RNG system.
Very strange that if you are a poor player or a good player how your results in a match can vary so wildly. It is not a consistent game and is quite poor really, and regarding another post regarding chat bans is it any surprise when the game yo-yo’s so badly in its results and game play.

ash river kinda a cursed map tbh, its like half the reason all the traction changes were made like 5 years ago

it will forever be causing problems

I remember people literally getting onto the mountains lol

Or instead remove all the redzoning and comically large boulders, along with restoring the traction stolen from all tanks.

Let people go apeshit, undo all nerfs to tank weaponry as well as CAS, and explicitly tell players to figure out how to remove people from trouble spots now that all the tools work efficiently.

But the reason for the red zone is to stop people using the top route and to force them into the centre to fight, compared to ‘everywhere’ (Except that one spot, which if it’s to be there, then the other side should be opened up as well, and can be done so whilst keeping the middle of the top closed).

ULQ with 144 FPS and cries about something being unfair…

Hey bro, this is a second-hand computer from 6 years ago. Even with ULQ enabled, every time I play, my fingers feel like slices of meat on a grill. I still hope this computer can last a few more years, rather than suddenly turning into a blazing fireball during a game. Besides, what we’re discussing isn’t even about graphics quality…

Even though this map was just recently remastered…
Gaijin clearly forgot to test this map more carefully.

only so much could really be done for a fundamentally flawed map like this

The best CAS move I ever made in game just recently was wiping down trees and grass completely from game. I could IR as I’m approaching and see EVERYONE which was impossible when i had my graphics set to standard or high because the trees from a distance aren’t rendering until I approach.

Gajin letting poor people play on ULQ is the biggest satire milking people as soon as they start their “free” game. These folks can’t afford a decent computer and Gajin wants them buying premiums and premium time to play the game.

This is on purpose nothing they do is a “mistake”

Yeah I completely agree with a lot of points above.!!
if the devs really want to change something its this ridiculous position that can literally over see 3/4s of the map.!!! The Other side doesn’t have the same map scope of view.!

Another DUMB part of map design! They’ve remove so many bits and leave that, HILARIOUS! You literally cannot get out of spawn.!!! REDESIGN IT OR REMOVE IT!
