The Excessive Grind is Ruining the War Thunder Experience

Dear War Thunder Development Team,

I am writing this to address an issue that almost every player in the community is struggling with: the insane amount of time required to progress through a single tech tree.

Spending 1,000+ hours just to reach Top Tier in one nation is simply unreasonable. Most of us have jobs, studies, and real-life responsibilities. We love the gameplay, the physics, and the attention to detail, but the game is turning from a fun experience into a painful, exhausting second job.

Here are the main problems with the current system:

  • Time Investment vs. Reward: The Silver Lions (SL) and Research Points (RP) economy still feels punishing, especially in mid-to-high tiers.
  • Burnout: Requiring hundreds of hours per nation pushes dedicated players to quit out of frustration rather than enjoying new updates.
  • Accessibility: New players are completely intimidated by the sheer size of the tech trees, knowing it will take them years to play with modern jets or tanks.

We don’t want everything handed to us for free, but we want our time to be respected. Reducing the RP requirements for older tiers, boosting base RP earnings, or rebalancing the grind would make the game significantly more enjoyable for everyone.

Please respect your players’ time. We want to enjoy War Thunder, not be burned out by it.

Best regards,

A Frustrated Player

If you’re coming into War Thunder to “complete” it… I think that’s the wrong outlook.
While you can research an entire tech tree in 50 - 96 gameplay hours with a premium account, that doesn’t mean you have to or should.

You should play the vehicles you love to play, and the grind will just not exist in your mind.
It’s how I accidentally got the entire British air tree. The only thing I remember of that “grind” is getting FG1 with the Sea Vixen I was enjoying, cause it was with rewards penalties.

I’m trying to play 6 tech trees at once. It’s a very slow grind but if I focused on just one or two I’d make it.
