It made them so awful to use. I am not against RS overall, as I quite liked how it was implemented on the Type 10, but the Leo 2 RS on the dev needs either a lot of tweaks or a complete overhaul.
Okay I just realized it didn’t happen to every vehicle but it was quite common
None of the best handling tanks (Type 10, Scimitars, M41A1, VT5, ZTZ96B…) had this bug I think or it wasn’t noticeable during normal gameplay

Oh for sure, it needs more work, but for how I tend to play tanks, it felt very nice on the Leo (apart from the acceleration during the turn lol)

I’ve definitely had this happen to me before, but I’m not sure on which tanks. I wonder what causes that.
I don’t remember who said it but I think this is a very old bug that is currently present on the Live server as well so not even connected to the regen steering.
They mentioned taking a M113 to the test drive and trying to hold A or D in that “hole” in front of you or something but I really don’t know who said it

Its gunna be something really stupid, like turning being additive to the forward drive isnt it.
(i.e Pressing A moves left track forward by X amount, pressing D does the same for the right track, W+A+D = more than just W)

Whatever it is, it must be something caused by spaghetti code, because it has been in the game for a while
I’ve had plenty of goofy stuff happen over the time I’ve been playing WT and some of that stuff feels like it could never be replicated

The first month or 2 of every major update summed up nicely there :P
But yeah, it almost certianly is porbably caused by old legacy code that would be too much effort to replace, because of the amount built ontop of it

Who knows what they did to make the current handling work somehow… Also if I remember right tanks weren’t accelerating forever, they stayed in the gear you started the turn in. So at least changing gears were blocked while holding A/D only

Speaking of regen steering and the Elde already having a form (not that it did anything) I do wonder if it would perform better or worse with the new regen steering system
I guess keeping speed is bad now? and to be honest you could have just used your brakes and then turned, not like you had to stay at 60

Keeping speed is not bad, but actually accelerating while turning is, which is what happened to the Leo 2s on the dev and what gave the a turning radius that rivalled that of the Yamato.
Which made the Leo 2s horrible on the dev.
Holding only A or D is the equivalent of just turning the steering wheel. So what should have happened is the tank starts turning while just rolling, slowly loosing speed.
But on the dev server even in the best case the tank maintained the speed without using the throttle. In the worst ones it actually started accelerating lol

It was a user mission so modded stuff and I only tried it on Finland in the snow but it was absolutely horrible. Zero traction so it couldn’t climb even the smallest hills (or just very very slowly) and then it started drifting which you can imagine how fun was with that trailer

I definitely feel like that’s something that needs to be changed.
I’ve already said this in different Discord servers, but the implementation should be that when you only press A or D, without pressing W, the driver doesn’t apply power and starts to shift down to 1st, maybe 2nd gear.
Right now what the driver does is push the engine throttle to 100% but stay in the same gear, which doesn’t allow you to slow down the tank in a turn.
On russian forum we passed a suggestion to shift the gear down if you press S once. Even in Auto transmission mode.
So like, you can press S couple of times and gear down, then turn, if you need.
Of course, what we had was highly unrealistic.
I don’t think there should be a lower limit, the tank would just keep turning until it loses all energy and stops. I mean I’ve never driven a tank but I imagine it’s the same as a car, if you let go off the throttle and just turn the steering wheel you are going to do circles until the car just stops on it’s own.
What’s the general opinion about regenerative steering on Discord? That’s the only place I haven’t looked at

I think that would be a bit weird to use if you also use S for braking
Well, you can put 3 different actions on one button, can’t you? Click, Hold and Double click.
Brake on hold and gear down on click. Or double click, idk. In any case gearing down slows you down as well so…
